30ff....BUT ONLY in 5th Gear around 110+ mph

2008 with 40,500 miles, jb4, new vacuum lines near oil filter, forge diverter valves.

I keep getting the illusive 30FF, but only in 5th accelerating 80%-100% throttle through 115-130 mph. Once i clear the code it rarely happens a second time during that particular drive. Oddly but thankfully, I can drive the piss out of it 1st through 4th without an issue of any kind. In fact I'm pretty sure I've never got low boost at low speeds.

It's to the point that I can sometimes predict when I'm about to get the 30FF. Also, according to the boost target gauge option of the jb4, boost is on point before and at the time of the 30ff. The specificity of the occurrence makes me think its specific in cause.

I've searched am am still searching. In the meantime, any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried logging it. Just recently got the cable. I need to get someone to ride with me. Feels a bit wreck less trying to operate the laptop and drive.

Won't be able to do that till tomorrow.

Garage List
Replace all of your vacuum lines (diverter valves, waste gates etc) then double check the forge dvs. The vacuum line nipple is screwed in and can loosen up. Are you running green or yellow springs? I had similar problems and found a leaky vacuum line and also a loose nipple on the forge dv. Anything else would probably cause the 30ff more frequently.

Jb4 g5 ISO. Newest firmware. Yellow springs in forge DV's.

The only vacuum lines I haven't replaced are the ones to the boost solenoids and to the wastegates due to their difficult location. The ones to and from the boost solenoids look and feel perfectly healthy.

Map 1 unless running e85 then map 5. It will hold 13psi (per map 1) steady up until the aforementioned time.

Map 5 with e85 will push the boost close to 15-17 according to my hijacked boost gauge courtesy of the wonderful jb4 and I will still only get the 30ff around the same time.

The peculiar thing is that i still sometimes get the 30ff if I start to let of the gas around 120 mph with 8-10psi of boost reading on the gauge. Also, I can do 3rd and 4th gear pulls back to back all day long without a hitch. There's just something unusual with this particular speed and rpm range.

I'm hoping someone has had this exact issue and found an exact solution.

I'm going to try and try the wastegate rattle fix (which it does do veryyy slightly at startup) and see if that helps. Based on the symptoms I'm thinking the wastegates aren't closing correctly.

Try reloading your firmware on the jb4 to the latest version and get a log of it as well if its easy to replicate... Good luck..

Sounds like a very small leak that only shows under heavy sustained load.

have you tried skipping to 6th gear and pulling hard from a low rev?

This is very hard on the turbos. I never overload my turbos like that and recommend you do the same.

It's either a small leak of the boost solenoids. The only place I haven't checked for leaks is around the intercooler. Either way, in time I will resolve the issue. Thanks everyone for all the help and welcome any further advice.
