I'd say it's akin to buying a cheap non-oem catalytic converter which craps out in 12 months but allowed one to pass emissions.

I have the full history by part number if anyone ever runs into the same issue. First NOX sensors went, then back pressure pipe blew, then exhaust in the cabin. Dealer price on all the parts they replaced was around $5k. Plus labor, that would have been over 10k. I was pretty close to giving them the keys back after it was in 3 or 4 times within the first 6 months. Knock on wood, everything is fine now and I truly love the car. I will get the extended warranty and drive it to 100k miles.

I highly doubt its the dde, why people start pointing fingers at it I have no idea as a failed dde is a much much smaller chance than anything else emissions related failing on the car.
63k on my car. 2011.
I do A LOT of driving. And I drive Hard!

Just got the car back. They put in a new particulate filter all covered under emissions warranty.
I can see how the faulty injectors, if running rich, clogs up the filter faster.

Well see how she drives over the next few k.

Just rolled 90k on my 2009, looking forward to 100k sans extended warranty, only problem is an intermittent SES light that goes out when I fill the fuel tank, and comes back on again at about 3/4 of a tank.

bad sensors for the DPF i would guess. If the sensors for the DPF provide feedback on the pressure differential then if one had drifted it could give a reading that looks like the DPF is overly clogged

Would you get the same message if a Nox sensor is bad?

I honestly dont know, but I doubt it. The DPF shouldnt really change the NOx count. That doesnt mean it couldnt be related but I would be surprised.

Just a question regarding the clogged DPF as well as the NOX sensors.

Will the BMS CANTool set to auto-clear clear these codes?

Also anyone else have this happen (unrelated I think)?

I have a JBD and the BMS CANTool plugged in to auto-clear tuner codes as I have the JBD set at 100%. Burger says on their website that the CANTool will clear tuner related codes but allow for engine malfunction codes to remain and set. Twice when pulling away from a dead stop on a cold engine I went more than 1/2 throttle and I had the MIL come on with reduced engine power. It felt like the car took off with power and then it seemed to short shift itself 1-2. That is when the light set, I was on the way to work so I just cleared the code and continued driving. The car has lots of power and drives fine, setting no codes other than those two times. I wish I would have remembered the codes but I don't.

I understand if this question maybe better suited on the Burger (N54Tech) site.

Thanks for any input!

Hmm, that blows... Do you know the actual code the car is throwing?
I have driven my car for about 3 days now and roughly 250 miles after the dpf replacement and all is well so far.

Dont have my reader with me. Just going to take her back to the dealer tomorrow. Starting to lose confidence with the shop foreman who supposely knows these diesels very well.

The only thing i know is that i have carbon buitup in the intake manifold that they refused to clean on goodwill and that the cars been running rich for a while... prob carbon everywhere including cylinder head as well. Rich can kill the nox sensor....

Wanted to update everyone on my car.

After over 2 months.......

The car is back
short version.
63k 2011 335D
All recalls and SB performed before 50k warranty was up.
first time in - 2 bad injectors
40 miles later - SES light again
Back in - Changed the other 4 injectors - Now 6 brand new injectors
40 miles later - SES light again / Diesel particulate filter failure message on idrive
Back in - Changed out Diesel particulate filter
60 miles later - same DPF filter message / Limp mode
Back in - speculated root cause to be excessive carbon built up
good willed intake manifold and cylinder head.

Now she is strong again. So far so good after 180miles.
Keeping fingers crossed.

Did you figure this out? Vacuum line or gas cap leak perhaps (Such as wi the gassers' vapor recovery systems)?

Man, you're wa ahead of me on miles. I have some catching up to do, but I've been taking it easy on the driving until I have the walnut blast done (sitting at about 60k ATM).
