Smile Charcoal Filter Delete/K&N Drop in

Just did a K&N filter drop in and a charcoal delete to my e90 330i, wow the response time is down to nothing!! The rpm's ascend smoother and faster, its like the car just became more of a sports luxury than a luxury sport if you guys know what i mean

If anyone has any questions on how to do this or is hesitent just ask! I was a little hesitent but im so glad i did it. its a noticable difference.

This app has issues lol! Since you had the air box out did you try cleaning the MAF? I think if cleaning it there would be some gains there too?!

I understand the K&N filter drop in but what's the charcoal filter delete?
I mean you're just replacing the regular OEM filter with K&N filter, right?
It sounds more like you're deleting something from the air intake box. I've heard of a silencer delete, any idea about that?

There's two things in the airbox: a charcoal filter and a regular air filter. The charcoal filter does nothing except catching vapors escaping the engine when your car is off. Over time that filter will get dirty, adding restriction and the thing is that BMW made it permanently attached to the airbox. Deleting this filter allows air to enter the engine easier.

I never tried the silencer delete since I'm not sure how much more sound it will yield compared to stock.

Its on the intake tube. Similar shape to a beer can, just smaller in size. Better to replace the stock tube with aftermarket piping like I did rather than try to seal the hole left behind by cutting off the silencer.

Honestly, the sound from the charcoal and silencer delete with the K&N drop in pretty much ceases to exist after a short period of time. You'll notice it initially but after that, no more. Especially if you modify the exhaust. Sure, it might be worth 1hp to do the deletes. It's really more about cleaning up your engine bay and making some more room to fit your hands down that area should you need it.

New here folks and this caught be off guard as i start my mods, exhaust is my primary and 2nd would be intake which i was looking into bmw performance bc of looks but, price is not worth it, 2nd option was the AFE intake which appears to be a popular choice. Now this mod.

Ive done some research after reading this post but couldnt' find anything that compare this mod to AFE Intake Stage 2.

Does anyone know which offers the best HP and sound? or pros and cons?

many thanks in advance for those who decides to answer the question.

If any Canadian members would like to trade their air-box with the charcoal filter still installed for my air-box with the charcoal filter removed i will pay shipping, must be a 323, 325, or 330. I removed mine and never noticed any difference so i want to go back to the stock set up for warranty reasons.

I did the cut out with k&n and didnt feel or hear anything different...I think its a placebo effect to be honest. It has to be better then the AFE garbage though

All i can think is its a more free flowing intake now with it gone. The charcoal filter was quite restrictive from what i saw and just for shits i hooked it up to my shop vac just to get a extremely rough idea and it didnt flow that well. SO is it more free flowing without it, yea. Is there a gain? Who really knows...maybe 1hp? .5hp? Never the less its nothing thats going to make you adjust the bolsters in your seat lol

Charcoal delete does absolutely nothing. Anyone who says differently is just trying to justify the time they wasted doing it.

I haven't tried this yet but for sure it does something..I mean it's and extra filter that restricts air flow...Benzo have you actually tried this or are you just trying to ruin peoples hope?
Cause you obviously don't like modding your cat...

I don't know if it's a combination of all three, but the charcoal delete + tune + exhaust have definitely transform the throttle and responsiveness of my car by like 3x.

Looking into the Eurobox next, the final step?

Goodmorning and thank you for your growing concern on this never ending issue. To address your question yes I have done this mod to my cat. I mean car. I'm by no means trying to ruin people's hope. I'm just trying to educate people that I felt and saw no gains after removing it. If modding your car for performance gains is the reason you purchased this car then I will be the one to carry the bad news and inform you that you have bought the wrong vehicle. If you wanted mod something for real gains then you should of bought a 5.0 mustang. Drive the car for what it is. Not what it isant.

Glad you liked the mod OP!

I've been reading up on this all day. Sounds good, so I just pulled the trigger and ordered the K&N

When I get it I'll open my airbox clean it out and do the charcoal filter delete.
