Car PC in Navi compartment ?
Has anyone put a car-pc screen in the navi compartment yet? I am looking at buying a used 335i and thinking about buying one without i-drive and purchasing a spare dash panel to stick a screen into. If someone has done it what is the biggest screen that will fit (don’t mind cutting )
I would like some pointers on where to source the dash (new or used in good condition). |

I plan to do a full writeup.. but I am new to BMW and need some pointers on where to source parts.. etc.. I can handle the computer build and I am handy in the garage.
Another option: How much is tied into the i drive system? It may be easier/cheaper to get a car with it, and just pull the screen for a larger LCD ? as well as figure out how to get the knob to control the PC... I need some enlightenment... |

Guess I am treading new waters..
Looking around at "junkyard" type sites I have found the dash part I need. They run from 400-800$ plus shipping and seem to all include the passenger side airbag. I contacted an OEM parts vendor to get pricing on a new one without the airbag and will let you guys know what I find out.. Back to my previous question: Can the OEM idrive system be removed without affecting anything ? |

what screen are you thinking of putting in there? the only ones that fit easlily are the oem screens. i had the 6.5 inch and swapped it for the 8.8 inch. you wouldnt want a touch screen in there because it is too far to reach and it would be impossible to get anything bigger than a 7inch in there anyway.

The PC components is the easy part of the problem...controlling the Carputer is the tricky piece I think. Personally I wouldn't want a second screen. |
