Quick question
How often should I change my oil?
I've got to book my car in for a service and brake fluid change but I'm thinking I might aswell get the oil changed at the same time. It was changed on the service last year, but my car tends to do lots of short journeys and the odd long one. If I don't change it then it will be next year I have a '57 335i on 65k (think I'm still on original turbos too) |

Otherwise what else would the garage be doing? Couple of filters and a look over? I also have a 57 plate 335i and do very similar journeys to you. At the mo I get mine changed yearly but may go twice a year due to lots of short journeys. |

BMW condition based servicing monitors various components and adjusts the service interval accordingly. For the oil change it's based on the distance the car covers using 500 gallons of fuel at the on-board computer calculated average fuel consumption. So lots of short journeys will result in increased fuel consumption and hence an earlier oil change. I've just had my oil changed and it's now showing 18,000 till the next oil change - that's 500 gallons at 36 mpg. I actually average around 34 mpg so I expect the CIC to drop from 18k quite quickly. Either way though, I change mine every year.

I do mine every 6/7k... just for good measure. Have done so in my ownership over the last 4 years.

If you are having the service carried out at an Indy/specialist as apposed to the main dealers you may be able to supply your own oil which may save you a fair amount of money, I generally use Eurocarparts or Opie oils & buy in advance when they have an offer on, my Indy is happy for me too do this as long as it's the correct spec oil for my car.

Get down National tyres. They even let you stand there and watch them if you want.
£44 for an oil and filter change using Fuchs LL04 and a Mann filter.

I buy all my parts from BMW though, to maintain the warranty. |
