windscreen glass help- adminral
hey guys,
I had a big crack last night due to stone in the motorway. To cut long stoy short my insurnace is refusing for me to have a OEM BMW windscreen. I have stated that my car has auto lights and wipers, warranty with BMW but they are refusing to give me a OEM windscreen. I have stated i have bmw warranty and they don't give a snit. t They said that the glass is the same as bmw one without the Bmw stamp and if i want a genuine screen i have to pay the difference bla bla bla. They said that my policy has stated cars over 3 years old will not be replaced with a OEM part. Anyone please help thanks

Insurance companies are W*nkF*cks. There is simply is no excuse for some of the snit as you out it that they come out with.
Especially when it comes to postcode lottery. Anyways Yoro San I hope you get it sorted. |

I've had non genuine windscreens fitted to a Mini and E46 without any problems. I wouldn't get too hung up about it.

Mine was the same as OEM without the BMW mark on it (obviously) I doubt BMW make their own screens anyway.

There are only a couple of auto screen manufacturers now.
The part will certainly be identical and just fine. The lottery is in the franchise that you get to fit it. Thankfully Admiral dumped Autoglass in favour of National a year ago. They are generally much better. However, AG are still a backup supplier. http://www.nationalwindscreens.co.uk...p/tag/admiral/ If you are in an early E9x make sure to stress this - they came twice to my 2006 E92 with earlier model glass.

I've had 3 screens in a Touran and one in the E90 from Autoglass and I have no complaints at all.

took national windscreens 5 goes to put my replacement windscreen in. I didn't initially need a replacement windscreen at first but they cracked it getting it out for a roof repair. Then they managed to put the rear mirror on the wrong way round, can only rectify that by taking it out again!!.
I had auto windscreens replace one for me in the past 3 months and they got it right first time and I'm abit fussy. Wasn't an oem screen but it almost identical, only difference is a pilkington symbol rather than bmw one. |

-- Pilkington;
-- Nordglass; -- Saint Gobain (Sekurit) -- Fu Yao; -- XYG (Xinyi) -- Shatterprufe; -- Guardian; -- AGC (Splintex) -- Safevue; -- Toglas; -- Duracam; -- Traglass; -- Autover; -- Elvex (and quite a few more) In some cases yes, this is correct. But there have been issues with the cheaper brands coming out of China (FY and XYG) and more recently, Poland (Nordglass) in terms of quality and functionality of sensors. The better non OEM branded screens are Pilkington and Sekurit both OEMs for BMW. FY are growing and getting stronger and OEM to a quite a few car manufacturers, including BMW (Mini). Agreed. Quote:

Generally speaking (and especially with BMW) OEM glass is a better experience all round. BMW can be very unforgiving if there is an issue (related to the windscreen such as sensor not working) and will not entertain it unless genuine parts are used/replaced. OP: If Admiral are saying the car is over three years old and therefore it's/you're not 'eligible' for an OEM part, is there any wording in your policy to confirm this and was it mentioned before inception? |
