Do any of you guys not use a pull up bar? Is it really necessary or can I substitute with dumbells?

You can substitute, but if you really want results nothing beats a pull up bar.

I'm interested in starting this. I have the dumb bells and I can easily download the program. I am SO bored of going to the gym. My only question is will I be able to do it? I can only do about 20 correctly done push ups and as for pull ups, I can't do even one. What exactly are the bands everyone is talking about that you can substitute for a pull up bar? Will I be able to keep up?

don't worry soo much about keeping up with the folks in the vid....important thing is to give it everything you've got...every time. i haven't read one review...anywhere...of someone who was able to pop in the vids for the first time and keep up. so don't feel bad. you will progress to that point as long as you're putting in the effort. hell i did ab ripper X for the first time the other day and only lasted about 2 minutes. but i did what they recommend in the workouts...take ur breaks as needed...and join back into the routine. don't just quit....

the bands are the workout bands that i think you can get through beachbody. however, there are numerous different bands out there that you can use. i think even Target or Walmart sells workout bands.

Everyone has different aspirations when it comes to working out. How many months out of the year are you in your competition physique?

I teeter on the edge of wanting to maximize my muscle gain, but i am not sure about the dedication. We will continue this are the 193's come to play.

Also, P90x works just as well as your workout program.

im sure u can get shreeded on p90x whatever, but i just did a vid of me doing 130 lb dumbells, thats yrs of lifting in my book, sep when not taking juice and being "light weight"

my typical back n chest day

warm up 15-20 min light back n chest ex
then:
(i always change things up all the time, but this is typical.. i also go according to how i feel)
incline dumbells, 4 sets 55, 75, 100, 10 reps each (then sometimes 120-130)
back wide grip pullup 3-4 sets 10 reps each, full range(sometimes strap 45 plate on)
straight bar machine 3 sets
back cable row (wide or close grip) 3-4 sets
incline dumbell flies 3 sets
dumbell rows or lats on bench, pull over machin (one of the three) 3 sets
cable crossover for chest 3-4 sets
then wide grip behind the neck...
then prob done depending on how i feel..

im really not dieting now.. like 3000 calories a day of good food, still eating ice cream though and pasta.

250 grams pro a day i think,, really not counting at all, just eating every 3-4 hrs.... i'll get a vid later and post a link done from my fone so u guys can see whhat i look like now
thanx for positive comments

(ps, i dont want to sound like an ass, but this p90 x thing is another late trend, and all these out of shape people are doing it... listen, workout eat right and do it yr round for the most part... its as simple as that, no trix)

Honda what are the haha's for.

Anyhow so you are admitting that your workout and p90x both work how they are intended to. Albeit what you do is to gain mass while p90x is to reduce fat. Did you or Honda think that i meant p90x would get you into bodybuilding shape?

I feel that you think it is a trick or trend because you know what you are doing. Of course it seems that way when it is being sold on an infomercial, but some of us just want to add another routine to our schedule. I believe that i will be going for maximum everything on my next routine.
