fc21 build thread

I've been trolling around for a few month and finally decided to create a build thread. Came from an 99 e36 m3 with 200k+ miles on it. ALOT of fun but had less and less time to maintain her with law school and work. Got an 07 335xi sedan, manual transmission, in April 2013. About 71k miles on it when i got it. Did some work on it, mainly upgrading angel eyes (lux) and some other lighting mods. Tried installing the UUC ssk but it was alot harder than expected (it requires moving the drive shaft). First time with a turbo car and I love it.

Met up with Faz (cool guy. very knowledgable) and some other guys to do a jb4 and dci install and found out that I have the dreaded waste gate rattle (I thought it was normal haha). Fast forward to today, dealership in Edison confirmed that it is the waste gate rattle and I get new turbo's! Should pick up the car this weekend or Monday.

Works out perfectly cuz I just ordered the csl trunk (thanks sonic tuning), AMS FMIC, BMS oil catch can, and upgraded to the jb4 G5 (thanks n54tuning), and I have the uuc ssk to install as well (turner motor sports)

Holding out on the charge pipe, bov, and downpipes till later until I figure out if I really need the extended warranty.

I will post pictures once I get to my computer later today. Using the app now, which is pretty cool but a big reason I'm not productive at work haha. Ohh well. 😎

First pic is when I first got her.

2nd pic is the drop that was previously installed. Kw variant 1's (lucky me haha)

3rd pic is the angel eye upgrade

4th pic is the black vinyl job done by exclusive vinyl in Brooklyn.

My phone rearranged the pictures but I'm sure you can figure out the correct order.

So far. No rattle at all. Car pulls alot steadier and stronger. (Shout out to Sidney at BMW-Edison) Installed the jb4 with the G5 board at the central NJ meet (thanks for the help guys)(very fast shipment from mike@n54tuning!) and the car is a different animal.

Learned about back end flashes for custom tunes and may end up doing that once I get the fmic installed or wait till I get FBO.

AMS intercooler is in. Mike@n54tuning (AMS intercooler and BMS Oil Catch Can) was real helpful, along with Pat@SonicTuning (CSL trunk). Will leave a better review once I get everything installed. Before and after pics will be coming up.

got the AMS intercooler, UUC SSK, and BMS oil catch can installed yesterday but Mike @ Max PSI in Linden NJ. Good service. Fair price. I will def be back there for other work.

So far, can't say I feel an amazing difference but the car does pull more consistent after a couple of runs throughout the rpms. I will have a better review once I drive a little bit further and see how it pulls while the engine/engine bay turns into a hotbox.

Also, finally installing the csl trunk tomorrow or saturday. Will post pics then.

It's been a while. Here is my boo thang.

I thought I could wait till the spring to get the DP's. Wishful thinking haha. Ordered them through Max Psi. Should be installed next week. Can't wait. Also getting my intake valves walnut blasted. Thinking about doing the CDV delete as well. That should put me up to date with maintenance till the spring.

Plan is have FBO by December and then to a suspension refresh in the spring. Any suggestions on mods that I should do for my suspension??

Also, any shops in nj/ny that do tunes? The car will be my DD but curious to see what kind of numbers I can put up but still keep reliability. I currently have jb4 (g5 board) and I'm new to the diff types of tunes out there.

Coils, M3 control arms, rogue trans mounts, M3 subframe bushings would put you in a good spot for chassis and driveline upgrades.

Also I would personally get blackline tails if you plan to keep the trunk exposed CF. Looks so aggressive and is out of place with the OE look of the rest of the car. Just my tastes..

@135Pats, I'm thinking of getting varrstorn es 1 in the spring to avoid the stock look but I have been on the fence with the black line tail lights. Mainly cuz if I do that, I'll feel compelled to swap out my headlights as well.

I have kw v1's already but I'll def look into the other suspension parts. Thanks!

Maximum PSI in Linden NJ. They quoted me at 300. Havnt gotten my car back yet so I cant speak to their work on my DP's but they have worked on my car for everything else and they have been exceptional and priced very well.

Finally got some more pictures. Got my intake valves walnut blasted by max psi with the official BMW machine and installed my AR Design downpipes. Idk if it's the downpipes or the clean intake valves but throttle response is fast and strong.

Also got some csl reps.

I'll be upgrading the clutch stop and doing the CDV delete this weekend maybe for a smoother response and quicker power transition to the wheels.

Thought I could wait till the spring but chances are I will be upgrading my charge pipe and getting forge DV's and getting a cat-back exhaust ( either vrsf, ae, aa)

Sorry for the iPhone pictures.

It's both the carbon cleaning and the DPs giving you that quick throttle response. Carbon cleaning does wonders.
