335i vs 335xi/x drive Sport Package Suspension & Ride Height ?
Ok i've been searching all over but can't find the answer to this.
I'm looking at 335 coupe. It's gotta have the sports package. Do both the 335i and XI have the same sport suspension? My buddy tells me it doesn't... Secondly, do 335xi's sit higher than the 335i? Again i'm talking only about coupes. |

Xi doesn't have sports suspension either. Only RWD models get that upgrade

XIs dont have sport suspension. They sit higher as they are meant to have higher clearances, like for snow.
Because of this, the XI suspension is very floaty. Drives nice in the snow though |

Drive both of them ...
then decide.
I drove several examples of both the 335i coupe and the 335i XDrive coupe and in normal driving as well as "legal" spirited driving, I was hard-pressed to tell the difference (the XDrive coupes I drove had the 18" wheels rather than the standard 17" wheels). What I did notice was how much more fun the manual transmissions cars were to drive. The difference in height was hardly noticeable unless they were side by side and I looked closely at the wheelwells and the relation to the tires. I suppose it all depends on what you ultimately want and how you plan to drive the car.

Your buddy is correct. They Xi does sit higher due to it's Xi suspension, therefore it also doesn't come with the full Sports suspension from the regular sport-package coupe. There is very little difference in feel, but a slightly noticeable difference in the look. If you want to look lower, get RWD only.

I have an X-drive and have driven three regular sport coupe with RWD, and I agree with this. They feel virtually the same and the Xi is by no means "floaty." It's mostly a difference in looks, and the suspension performance difference is very minor.

Isn't it 4 major differences ? Different steering ration, height, softer suspension, and 200 extra pounds ?
I would hardly believe that it makes no difference. It should make alot of difference under spirited driving. and xi does sit VERY high for a sports car |

some xi coupes/sedans sit lower than others for some odd reason. Mine is not as jacked up as some ive seen in nyc.

Arent technicallly the front control arms on the xi are steel while the i are aluminum? Ive driven both and my xi is definitely not floaty comparatively.
If you are all about performance, make sure you get an aftermarket LSD pronto on your i because it doenst have one.

As others have mentioned you can get coilovers or a shock/spring combo for the xi/x-drive to improve the handling and asthetics.

Idk how some of you xi guys don't feel the floatiness... I agree it does feel like a regular 335 but once you get to around 100+ it starts to feel so floaty it's frightening

I haven't driven a non-xi, but when I'm driving 60 MPH+ there are times when I can feel the front end of the car lifting slightly with all of the air pushing up underneath the front of the car due to the rake.

Yea but i'm also talking about things like on ramps and hitting bumps in the 80-+100 range. That's when i really feel the floatiness

1) Xi sits higher, and also has a rake (front is a bit higher) for driving clearance.
2) Xi with sport package gets a modified standard i suspension. 3) Both feel floaty to me. Comfortable, a bit sporty, but watered down. 4) RWD w/o LSD is one wheel drive. I'd get the xi and upgrade the suspension. Best of both worlds. Pics in my garage are stock xi suspension w/ 18" 189s and 19" CSL replicas. Good luck with the decision. You're going to love your new coupe. |
