Good! Well, not good about the bruises! I see so many people driving without belts.

Did all the safety stuff work? Like the doors are supposed to unlock, flashers are supposed to turn on, interior lights, etc... I know, geeky of me but I think it's pretty cool that BMW thinks of those things.

Man that sucks a lot. Good to hear you're ok though, cars can always be replaced.

Willing to part out shadowline trim?

That's a ton of damage, and not even a wrinkle in the A pillar or door skin. Glad you are OK. Looks like the car protected it's passenger well!

I would but there was a good amount of chips in it around the side mirrors.

Update - 4/29/13

Got a call from Police Dept saying they have to do a full investigation as the old lady passed away late Friday night apparently. Reason/cause is unknown at the moment.

Got in an accident today because some old lady decided to make a left in front of me and gave me no where to go to avoid her. Car looks completely totaled as everything is pushed into the engine and there was oil and coolant all over the ground. Everyone be careful out that and watch out for oblivious old ladies!
Sorry to hear about everything! Especially the lady passing away even though she was completely at fault. You can always get a new car but as you already know a life is irreplaceable. Glad to hear that YOU are ok....

Too many people say this. It's a delusion. BMWs are very well engineered and their safety record is pretty damn good but they're no great deal safer than an Acura or an Escort. Drive carefully. Don't assume you are at less risk because you're in a BMW. That is a fallacy.

That is very sad. It looks like it was a pretty major hit. She may have had internal injuries.

Glad to hear this! At first when you said "the old lady passed away" I thought you were talking about the person that hit you. After all, you did use "the old lady" to describe both your car and the person that hit you.

scroll up a few posts.. she passed away.

this sucks OP. glad that you're ok but that sucks for the lady. i would have been pretty pissed to be in your shoes but the little good in me (whatever amount that is, heh) will imagine the older lady to be a close friend or even family member as a sobering thought. sad.

i think licensing needs to be way more strict, not just for the elderly as driving is a right, not a privilege. having spent the past year in scandinavia, i' was very impressed with their licensing requirements. first, you can be licensed as capable to drive stick shift, as opposed to just auto. second, the driving school (required for everyone) is very thorough. long distance driving, night driving with obstacles, rain driving, and if you're "lucky" like me, snow on exam day! lastly, the driving school and exams are expensive so you're going to take the time and effort to properly learn and pass the exam.
amazing what can be accomplished without the entitlement mentality.

Agreed. You can (and will) replace the car. That was probably someone's grandmother, mom, friend, etc. that is no longer around. Her fault or otherwise it's a bit insensitive.

Fixed it after i had heard. At the time I originally posted she was doing okay and i was heated because it was shortly after the accident.

Sorry about your car and what a tragedy that the older women lost her life. That's very sad. I hope the OP is OK as this can't be easy on him.

Thanks, its definitely not easy, just trying to stay hopeful and awaiting the police report to see if I'm in the clear as I believe I should be.
