I changed mine about 11K ago and I reckon they have another 10K left in them. B Potenza's

All 4 had pretty even wear - I found this surprising and thought the rears would have been in poorer condition

Did you go for Michelen, Bridgestone or other.

Quite a few on E90Post seem to prefer the Michelen RFT for their ride quality

I did 40,000 on my rears and 44,000 on the fronts. The fronts went exactly as your picture. The lease company refused to change the front with the rears as they still had up to 5mm in the centre of the tyre. Once the casing started to show they had to replace as they are not only illegal they are down right dangerous. Two days after changing the fronts I had to hit the brakes on hard on the M6. I stopped instantly, the Merc behind had no chance and hit the rear. If I hadn't of had the tyres change I am sure I would have hit the car in front and I would be having an interesting conversation with the lease company and insurer!!

BMW claim the wearing of the outside of the tyre is due to me not keeping my tyres inflated correctly. Aparantly I should check pressures every week. The tyre depot claims most 3 series wear like this!!

PS the damage shown on my avatar on the front of my car was from hitting barriers twice after the Merc hit me!

My mates 320D does exactly the same to the rears! His is leased and have to be done at Kwik Fit - the manager reckons he sees loads with very uneven tyre wear like that

On one visit to BMW I complained about the uneven wear. After the service I was accused of not checking pressure as the fronts were only 17 PSI. The guy could not explain if they were this low why did the TPM not warn me of this!!

Do not trust TPM. Do not trust that run flats keep their pressure. You can't tell they are low due to being RFT!!!!

In my experience RF Sensors will only detect a fairly rapid loss of prerssure - ie. Puncture

I've had a puncture and it notified me immediately - I took a look around the car and couldn't tell which one was the culprit. Pulled into a garage and checked the pressure's and the FSN was down tp 23PSI.

I had a leaking valve and over a few weeks a tyre dropped to 32PSI - Monitor did not detect this......odd?

Out of interest the TPM can only tell if there a difference between wheels and if two on the same theoretical axle drop by a simular amount it won't flag a warning because it works on rolling radius.

I bet the fuel economy figures were sub 20mpg as well!!! If his foot wasn't on the throttle it must have been on the brake. How long did his brake pads last?

I had all four replaced on E91 320d at 19k.

Fronts had worn unevenly across the tyre, backs were evenly worn down.

Lease Co made Kwik Fit replace the Bridgestones with Michelins.

I had to get them to try to balance it 3 further times (once at the depot - "my van balancer can't do it that accurately") before they relented and replaced all four with Bridgestones.

It is a pain in the rear not having a spare - in the past I would just swap each wheel in turn with the spare (preferably) until I found the duff one.

The last fitter also echoed what has already been said that he has seen loads of 3 series on runflats with uneven tyre wear - usually replacing all four at the same time. He also claimed that mine was the second set of new Michelins he had to replace with Bridgestones in the last two weeks.

Sounds like page 2 of the tyre fitters book of excuses to me.

My Bridgestone rears were replaced by Michelins as the lease company prefers these (sounds like a back hander to me) However a few weeks later when the fronts had reached the casing they reluctantly gave the go ahead to replace. As Michelins were not available they put Bridgestones back on. I hate mixed tyres on a car at the best of times. In this day and age when all tyre brands say tyres should be matched it should not happen. Only had the car for a few more days until I crunched it on the M6!!!

This is exactly the problem. Because the sidewall of the RFT is reinforced, if the pressures are low the cars weight is effectively just on the edge of the tyre.

As a result the edges of the RFT's wear REALLY quickly if you don't monitor your pressures.

The tyre pressure monitoring system will not pick this up because it only identifies a sudden rapid deflation. In the end there is no substitute for keeping an eye on them yourself.

In reality, a weekly check is probably excessive and once a month does the job, but if you skip it you get wear as shown in the photo.
