this is turning out to be a wash.... shop is inept. talked to terry, I'm putting out 18 psi and 12 degrees timing, and dyno is showing 345 and 511 TQ. I think I need to take the keys and find another shop.... Numbers are WAY off. Terry is looking at my logs right now, but he's saying that the dyno is reading way low.... DUH!

the third run had 547 TQ and the rwp was consistently [low] at 349. Needless to say, I left that place... our TQ numbers are not 500+... -these guys just couldn't get it right - they only do Camaro's and Vette's there - this was all new to them. On paper I should put down 375-ish on a Dynojet - everyone knows that. I have another dyno shop over the bridge in another part of town... I am just so tired of this.

just now from Terry:

"...car looks to be running fine based off the logs. That log would do around 375rw STD here on our dynojet..."

so... this shop was just another bad place to dyno.

FYI

today config (aside from the bad shop) was running 70/30 meth/distilled, and Sunoco 104 straight. scaling 60/additive 70.

Map 3, Map 6 -> 4th gear 2k-6k - no kickdown.

I scheduled another appt at another shop - just got off the phone - next week. jeeeeezzzzzz

anyone know anything about tapping into ODB-II for tach signal - as shown here?

If this is a possible solution... how would the operator tap into this, just have a lead sticking out of PIN #10 ... and that would be it?

There must be a solution for this BMW tach signal issue - I see guys posting torque values - so operators are finding a signal - why can't they find a "stable" signal on mine???

IF I am to use the wires on the coil pack - does anyone know [definitively] which coil (1,2,3) and which wire? (coil has 3 wires: +12v, ground, and the command signal - I have heard that the command signal is weak (maybe 5 or 12v) since the coil driver is inside the coil)

help - anyone know for sure? photo's would be greatly appreciated here as well...

thanks,
robert

If possible try to get some baseline also next time, absolute numbers are fun and nice, but not 100% comparable to others as you just say there, dyno to dyno variance is huge. The delta from your baseline and your best run the same day on the same dyno is what you should look for.

indeed - I am also learning that geography is playing a huge factor here as well. Sea-level, 100 degrees and near 100 humidity are wreaking havoc on any potential numbers. I can't determine where I am compared to others in more arid climates - I need to wait until October-November time frame just for temps to drop near 80 with a better humidity ratio. It's too hot and the air is too dense here.

Rob, why don't you go to the dyno place you went to a long time ago? The one where you realized the N55 is no dyno queen lol.

^^ i actually gave that some thought - at least its a baseline - and they had my tach signal.... I am going to try another place - I talked with the shop owner today and he is going to help me try to dial this in, he's offered some great suggestions and seems to be willing to help try to nail this down. We'll see....

You seem to be mainly interested in the actual raw numbers, so my advice is to find a dynojet that other BMW owners have used that puts out higher numbers. Some of them put out around 285rw stock vs 265-270rw stock for others to be sure to find a "loose" one!
