N54 single exhaust conversion??

I'm debating going Single 3" straight exhaust after downpipes, maybe a muffler, not sure yet. I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Has anyone on here ever gone single exhaust on the N54? I'm just trying to get an idea of what it would sound like.

I currently have catless DPs with 2nd cat delete, resonator delete on stock mufflers and my car sounds like crap... I might do muffler delete today and see how that sounds, while I decide on what rout to take.

You didn't search that hard because HPF makes an exhaust system like you're talking about. 3.5" inch single pipe (post DP) that runs all the way to the tips. Also Tiago@VRSF has been talking about the exhaust system that they're going to be releasing

For those looking for more information regarding our exhaust design/sound, we use a 3.5" design which takes a less common approach. Rather than sticking with the dual exhaust system, we combine the two exhaust paths into one 3.5" pipe and split off into two 3" tips after the muffler. We're utilizing an adjustable rear tip which will allow both single & dual tips and will allow for customization of both tip orientation and adjustability for Sedan vs Coupe fitment.

As for sound, the exhaust setup utilizes a specifically designed muffler to keep the overall tone similar to stock in idle/cruise conditions. When you open it up, you get to experience the full effect of the 3.5" catless exhaust with a deep, aggressive tone.. In wide open throttle conditions, the exhaust does a great job of accentuating the high compression exhaust note without the excessive drone/harmonic imbalance found in most systems. This sound is loud enough to differentiate from stock but more refined in comparison to the louder race/non-daily driver exhausts. If you're looking for something loud enough to wake the neighbors, this exhaust isn't for you (or at least this variant

If you put a single tip out the end and put a 328 bumper on, people would freak out when you have a 335 badge, then you're like STFU its a 335 with single exhaust :P

At this point I wish I hadn't taken of the 2nd cats and resonator... I would rather have my exhaust sound stock then it sounding like a ricer Honda like it does now...

Anyone know if adding resonators would help out at all?

Resonators will kill drone, prob won't do too much for the acoustics of the exhaust now that it's basically a straight pipe. There's a couple GBs for exhaust going on right now, try & buy some1s OEM exhaust off them.

If you add HoursPower, doesn't it slow down your time?

Klipseracer did a custom job a while back. I think the general consensus is it was too loud. I would shoot him a PM for details.

OP, go add some vibrant resonators 1790 or 1792 in place of where your secondary cats use to be and your exhaust sound will improve 100x.

with catless DP's and no secondary cats you get alot of rasp... the resonators will cut the rasp and you'll have a nice sounding exhaust.

Ive wanted to do this since I got my car just for more sleeper effect. It would also be nice to not be harrassed/tempted by so many people wanting to race around town. A little weight savings also being a factor of pertinence for an xi...

I used to have a heavily modded eclipse gsx 1996 and one day we stole the RS sticker from the back of another eclipse. I was amazed at how many idiots couldnt figure out that it was only a damn sticker. Some people, huh?!

My buddy and I were supposed to fab up a single 4" on my car, but ended up switching focus to my vw. I kinda wish I had done it. I'm sure it would sound awesome. I don't like the sound 3.5" creates. I had a single 3.5" on my single turbo 350z. It was quieter than stock but kind of tingy in the lower rpm's.

I've been thinking of doing this with the replica M3 Rear for Single muffler, probably go custom for the exhaust. I've been thinking of a muffler that would look good on there... any ideas? Maybe I could just run a hidden muffler then more piping leading to some dual tips would look good. If and when I go single turbo I'll do this.

If you want a single exhaust, go buy a Supra, EVO or WRX. You own a BMW, have some class & respect for the brand and either maintain the dual pipes or get quad (M3 style) tips

IMO, single side exhaust look ricey as shit & makes your car sound like a road mosquito. FUCK THAT

I ran the 2nd gen HPF 3.5 on my car. It has a Y at the dif to dual 3". Front pipe has a flex and they put a res on the 2nd half to cut the drone, but I found the pipe to still be loud with a lot of int drone at 3 to 4k. I thought it felt like I picked up some power over stock, but not enough to justify the cost. Nice looking pipe and it uses C's throughout which makes it easy to install. I personally would rather put a single out the back with a nice 328 after market bumper with defuser but do yourself a favor and put a good high flow muffler on to cut the drone. You'll thank me later.
