Awful sound from speakers in 2011 335

Guys

Has anyone else got a god awful sound that comes from their speakers in their 335? Ive a 2011 e92 and it literally sounds like theres a fax machine in the damn speakers. Been that way since i got it. I took it to the dealer and they said BMW in Germany said it was a known issue, but couldn't fix it!

I have '11 335i e93 with Logic7 premium stereo. No odd sounds from mine stock.
Do you have a base stereo or premium Logic7?

Radio BMW Professional is what the production notes say. Thinks its base model. The sound is really awful - seems weird the dealer basically said there's nothing we can do.

If you have the base stereo you should modify it.

If you have the base stereo you should modify it.
or be forever doomed to bad sound.
Read the following

It can be fixed and you can have a great system its just that BMW
won't help you.

See my post here.

Anyway...if it resembles my issue at all, I think the dealership should just replace the HU. My hunch is a batch of these have some thermal issues between the source input and the amplifier stage in the HU. Either with detecting whether to allow signal to pass or converting the incoming signal. Just a guess.

Personally I don't think it sounds like a fax, I think it sounds like the huge dishes that broadcast those SETI signals. Maybe the aliens are communicating back via 2011 BMWs.

Edit: what WAS your stock configuration??? Do you have early 2011 or 2011.5? And did you recode it?

Edit: whats your new config as well?

676 is Hi Fi and 677 is L7 at least it used to be.

So it seems you confirmed you have the base system.

Wow - so they're actually replacing my radio today. Didn't expect that as I've had them look at this previously and it went nowhere. Not sure if yours is as bad as mine - but do it is push for a new one

FWIW my sedan is one production month newer than yours is. I never got around to listening, but the fax machine sound (presuming it was an overlaid signal) is an apt description of how mine sounded. Glad you're getting the HU replaced. The bright side is you'll be able to lament the stock sound quality as it was intended to be lamented!

FWIW the P/N on my invoice is 65-12-9-225-849.

If you're interested in a scan of the invoice, send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll forward it on. Two data points might be better than one.

sad but true

I got in a 100k S class over Christmas that had an upgraded factory stereo.... it was very disappointing, do Germans ALL have faulty hearing or wot?

and now to contradict myself (sort of)... I only been in two cars that had a stereo worthy of mention.

My Omega (made in Germany but not sure who spec'ed the upgrade might have be UK guys as sold here as a vauxhall) with Bose factory upgrade, 14 years old and still makes anything BMW fit look like the sick joke they are and better than the S class I mention above

My mate's A8 with 6k factory HiFi upgrade, its OK but the sub can't cope with life and clips when you wind it up.

On previous cars he's been to umpteen aftermarket guys in London and thrown money at them with wires, amps and speakers everywhere... all sounded awful.

Mine made that loud sound from the speakers. I drove it to the dealer and they said that they had heard it once before in an X3. They replaced my HU and I haven't heard it since. My car also makes the fax machine sounds and there is a constant
hum that comes out the speakers. I wish I could get it fixed, but my SA says it is normal.

Take it back and tell them it's absolutely not normal. It's a faulty unit. You should show then the copy of my receipt and try contact main BMW office somehow. My dealership also said it was a known issue first time I took it in which I find incredible. Make Ben change it again.

So, they replaced my HU after the noise, then I took it back to get the hum fixed. They replaced the amp at that time and they said that it didn't go away. So they put back my original amp. I am planning on taking it back sometime soon. Definitely before my warranty runs out. BMW of North America said there was nothing they could do.

I have an DLS Reference speaker setup for the front doors and kicker 8" woofers if your interested in not messing with the weak base stereo system. I also have an Alpine 4 way amp. Everything is plug and play. I had it in my 2010 E90 for about 3 months before removing when I sold it.
