Not to hijack your thread, but I'm having the same issue with the one I bought today, but I bought it used. It has the 6NR option installed from the vehicle list they showed me, but I do not see ConnectedDrive. Further, I asked the salesman, who asked one of the techs, who said that "BMW Apps cannot be added to this car." He asked me if I wanted him to ask another tech, but I said no because it was already 8pm and I wanted to drive home. Do I have any options to get this done at the dealer since it was used or am I hosed?

While I will certainly defer to someone who knows more (i.e., Technic), I would think that if you bought a used E90/E92, etc., from a dealership, and they showed you documentation that your car had the 6NR option...then they should do whatever needs to be done in order to restore that feature.

I'm assuming you've read through the whole thread and realize there are a few additional options that you also need to have equipped. If you have these...and your iDrive menu shows BMW Assist instead of ConnectedDrive, then it is most likely a software issue. I know from speaking with my SA after it was finally fixed that even they thought it was something more complicated with my car (i.e., bad Combox, etc). But after they sent the car new software and then waited for a while, the iDrive menu changed over and all the ConnectedDrive functionality has been spot on so far (knock on wood).

So, while I don't know all the specifics of your purchase, warranty status, dealership reliability, etc., I would think you should have all functions that are listed on that car working on delivery.

What are the stats on your new ride?

From everything I've read...it has everything you need to get all the functionality...6FL, 6NR, snap-in adapter with smartphone integration, etc.

New car:

2011 Space Gray 335is, 6spd, black interior...fully loaded with every package and apparently that stupid cruise control that I don't know how to use just yet. The only thing it doesn't have is the coral red leather from my old one. Will obviously be adding all the parts from the old one onto this one eventually, given the time.

I bet you're having the same issue I was. While mine is not an "is" (as I need awd), it does have the PPK Stage 1 tune on it. I believe the 335is has some derivative of that same option, that is the Performance Power Kit (Stage 2?) but mated to the N54 versus the N55 in mine.

Long story short, your PPK software probably fried your 6NR Enabling Codes...this making the option "invisible" to your CIC. I'm guessing a few hours of pushing new software into it, and pulling new enabling codes from their ASAP Portal would solve your problems. I'd be a bug in your dealer's ear until this was fixed.

Good luck.

Unless your used car is over 4 years old/50,000 miles then it still have warranty.

I do not think that there is something else to add that was not already discussed in this thread but to go again to that dealer and tell them to reflash your car with the latest software update with the 6NR FSC.

This dealer attitude of not reading their own bulletins is absurd.

What options, that you haven't listed above, are needed in addition to make this work for you?!

I have no idea...coding maybe? That's a great question. All I know is that I don't have ConnectedDrive, and I want it.

It seems from the options you listed before, and also via those option codes in your previous post, that all that's left to do is have the dealership push through those BMW Apps (6NR) FSC Codes.

They probably just want to wash their hands of your purchase now that its over and the money is in their coffers and don't want to commit any more time to helping you out.

I don't think you need to retrofit anything...I think you just need your dealership to pull their collective heads out of their anuses.

Technic, thoughts?

How would I convince them to do that, considering they denied that it was even possible in the first place??

It seems to me that the production date of your 335is is prior to 03/11 -the 6NF option is the telltale.

The dealer will be unable to retrofit the 6NR, however contact forum vendor BimmerTech for details. He can retrofit the 6NR in your car -it has the required main hardware to allow it.

Yep I'm already talking to him about it. So this should be just software-side retrofitting, correct?

My apologies RMW...I looked too fast at your codes listed and glanced right over where it said 6NF instead of 6NR. Hence, I didn't compute that your 335is was produced just a gnat's eyelash too early to have the dealer help you.

Glad Technic could set things straight. Good luck to you in the retrofit from BimmerTech. From everything I've read in this forum, people are very happy with the results.

Happy turns!

If you need the combox which I think you do, you will need to switch out the hardware in the back of the trunk.

To make it more complicated, there are two type of combox out there. A media and a telematic one. Media one is much cheaper but will disable your BMW assist.

I have the combox (06VC), but do I need a NEW combox to make this work? I'm assuming I have the telematics one since I already have all the other options including bluetooth and all that.

Hi, This is really very informative forum. I am learning so much. I am located in India.

I need help with BMW apps. I just purchased a 320d E90 (2012), it comes with idrive and communication package so I am able to connect my iphone and browse through music etc.

I dont have navigation installed since BMW in India offers navigation only on 7 series (and I paid USD 80,000 for 3 series in India! ). I download connectdrive app from app store and tried to connect but nothing happened.

I wanted to ask experts here as to what are my option, in case:

1. I want Navigation with India maps.
2. How can I get BMW apps at least and also browse Internet.

I will really appreciate help on this. In case more info is required on car then please let me know how to check and let you know here.

Many Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm about to take delivery of a 2011 335is with all the factory options you have.
How do you like your car?
I'm considering the Dinan Stage 3 suspension upgrade, for BMWCCA high speed driving events and auto cross. Have you considered that? Opinion?

I just picked up a new 2011 E90 335i xDrive M-Sport which includes Navigation w/ Enhanced BT & USB, Smartphone Integration and BMW Apps according to the window sticker. Also, according to the dealership's website write-up it also has the Combox.

For the life of me, I could not figure out how to get BMW Apps working. So, via some searches on YouTube I found some video "walk throughs" of the option. It looks as if it is all contained under "ConnectedDrive" in the iDrive menu. Here's the rub...I do not have that option in my iDrive menu.

Now, if it was just the dealership's write up on their own website that I was basing my assumption of options on, I'd think that maybe they listed something the car did not actually have mistakenly. However, on both versions of my window sticker (the one on the actual window, as well as another version of it included with the car's documentation), the three options of Nav w/ Enh BT&USB, Smartphone Integration, and BMW Apps are all listed.

So...my question to you guys is do you think it's a situation of a bad Combox, or a bad connection between the Combox and the CIC, so that the option isn't registering in the iDrive menu? The system also will not accept the most recent (12/11) update for the Combox via the USB port in the center console. I'm obviously going to get the dealership involved, but I wanted to check with the collective knowledge of E90Post as well.

Thank you in advance!

Read thru thread and I am having the same issue with the car I purchased last month.

Build date is March 14, 2011.

Car has Combox and Navigation

Go into connecteddrive and BMW apps wont show up. I installed the app on my phone, ran it and did the diagnostics and received failed connection response.

I do not have the PPK as you guys have discussed.

I have service next Monday so if anyone has any insight on what I should tell the SA so I dont sound like an asshat that would be lovely.

Thanks from a brand new member!

So, if by some fluke your car's manufacture date is outside those dates, that would explain the situation.

Assuming your car is the correct "vintage" (and therefore has the combox hardware), it sounds like it doesn't have the coding/programming for ConnectedDrive.

Since you bought this car new from the dealer, it is all on them to make sure the car has the options it was represented to have. I would put all the onus on them to get this straight - after all, it's a brand new car and it's not showing the options for which you paid!
Rehashing an old thread here...I have the unlucky build date of 09/10 on my 2011 M3. Possibly one of the first cars to have combox according to quoted statement above. I have the combox i'm assuming b/c i can stream BT audio but do not have connected drive. (I couldn't use BT audio on my 2010 model.)

Reaching out to the experts here for knowledge as im getting confused reading all this. Is this just a software flash or do i need a retrofit to have "connecteddrive?"
