pulled the plastic tabs that go in the rubber of the steering wheel ... and nothing ... still won't come out ... it seems there is still something that's holding the god damn thing ...

I think the easiest way is just to remove the airbag first. It doesnt take that much time to do.

alcantara for airbag cover?

Do you think it's possible to redo the airbag cover in alcantara as well?

Thanks

Yeah, the roundel comes off pretty easily. I don't think it would look too good though.

Thanks for the post, it's been a year and I still haven't installed it and kind of gave up on it and by chance revisited this forum and seen your message.

I'm going to try it again this week when the weather is not too hot and see if I can push on those tabs you mentioned about. Thanks again for your instructions and hopefully I can get it to work.

Just did this. Did it in 4 minutes. Once you get the screws unscrewed, get the trim to move around and don't be afraid to use force, you can't really break the clips since they are clipped into rubber in the steering wheel. If anyone need help in the nyc area i can do it for you it's real easy.

It only took me a few minutes as well. Like they said the hardest part is removing the trim. By starting at the bottom of the right side first and then pulling upwards until you can get the top half from around the steering wheel. After that is very easy. Great write up and photos! I paid about $75 to replace the OEM. Had to special order.

I found this one 32306792576 but it says something about paddle shifters, which i do not have on my car, will it still fit?

Thanks for any help! This writeup made it easy for me to make the decision to fix this problem!
The part number that you are after is 32306792576. The steering wheel cover with the pearlesent strips. I ordrered mine from www.getbmwparts.com. It fits my 2005 bmw E90 325i with the sports steering wheel. I dont have paddle shifters.

Glad that it was painless! I need to do a writeup on how to take the exterior trim off (e92).

Great write up! I was able to swap out my pearlescent trim with chipping rubberized plastic with one from a 330 which is plastic only in about 15 mins (first timer too).

Big thank you. I did mine yesterday and because of this write up, i was confident and just pulled it out after removing the torx behind, took 5 mins. On my 06, and not sure for others, i pulled the left side first as the wires for the controls which is attached to the actual steering was on the right. So if I had pulled the right side first, I may have yanked the wires out.

Thank you for posting this. Another thread on here had a post saying that the steering wheel had to be removed.

Glad that I read this first!

THANK YOU

Just did install based on this threat. Thank you so much.

The swith boxes are attached to the trim on a '09 335I.

1 Torx srew on each side. You have to peel the trim back a bit so you can unscrew. Then the trim comes off super easy. Make sure you start on the left side first as it has more play room with the wires.

Now I'm in the market for a M steering wheel. Anyone have one available?

loosen the 3 screws on the back of the wheel and tried for almost 30 minutes to shimmy off the trim .... i have also pushed down on the upper plastic tabs .... it just won't come off ... could it be possible to have more than 3 screws??

I was finally able to get my DAMN trim off! It was pretty easy once I figured out what my problem was. (My torx screws weren't unscrewed all the way) Some important tips to follow:

1) It may sound stupid...but make sure all your Torx screws are unscrewed all the way! You will feel that the screws are loose.
2) Get a small screw driver to pull up some of the rubber on the top corner of the steering wheel trim. Pull the rubber part up and make your way across from left to right and make sure the two little rubber tabs are out.
3) Pop the top INNER left or right corner of the steering wheel trim over the horn. (This may require a little force) I think it would be better to start from the left because there is a wire on the right side you don't want to brake or yank off.
4) There are 4 Torx screws on the inner part of the trim that I unscrewed to get the wires off.

Hopefully this will help people like me who were struggles to get this stupid thing off.

Hi,

This guide doesn't quite work for me unfortunately, I have a tight wire under my track selection Multi fiction button that stops me from pulling the right hand side of the trim outwardly enough to get my torque tip in for removing the last multi function button screw. Has anyone else had this???

Cheers
Craig
