2006 E90 330d - Which headlights do I have?
Afternoon all,
I have a 2006 E90 330d M Sport. How can I identify which headlights I have? They seem to auto adjust when I turn them on and I have the headlight washers. Is this an indication of the type of headlights or just a standard feature? Thanks in advance Andrew |

Do they have lenses, like the lens in an eye? Or do they look like Mr Kiplings pie dishes?

If you have an internal control (thumbwheel) to adjust the headlamp aim you have halogens, if you have no adjustment you have xenons (as they auto-adjust). All BMWs move the headlamp aim up and down whether they're halogens or xenons.
Drive it at night and then you'll know.... EDIT - just seen the pic. Mr Kipling halogens.

I know I don't have the 'Angel eyes' but wondered if they were xenon or halogen.

Halogen. All xenons have halo rings.

Ahh...Cheers.
Am I right in thinking they are the bottom of the range (so to speak) headlights? |

I've just been considering upgrading them as I'm not that impressed with them. Now I know why.
Is upgrading them easy? Which, if any, OEM headlights are plug and play? I'd like the 'angel eyes' from an asthetic point of view but I'm more bothered about them being brighter and projecting a better beam over a longer distance. Thanks for the info so far guys. |

An oft-discussed topic. Realistically you're stuck with halogens as upgrading to xenons and remaining compliant with the 2012 MOT laws makes it so expensive as to not be worthwhile. Because you have a 6-cylinder, you have headlamp washers which is a big start, but you also need auto-levelling to comply with the MOT and fitting that would be a massive headache.
Your best bet is to get the later LCi halogens which now have the halo rings, and then put in some high-performance halogen bulbs such as Anneka is selling on the home page. The standard halogens are a bit shite hence my earlier comment "drive at night and then you'll know...."

Electrically yes but I don't know if the mounting or even the shape is identical, thinking about it. I think the bonnet on the LCi e90 might be a different shape(?)

I'm under the impression that the LCI bumper and bonnet are different but the lights are the same.
Thanks for your help. |
