Putting in the underseats it pretty easy .

Putting in the under seats(speakers) is pretty easy
,there are only two bolts holding it down .
It's actually easier and less involved than doing the doors. Yes you take enclosures out its easy.
You want to have the factory connector on your new speakers. You can buy one or use the old one
its your call.
There are only a few things you have to be careful about.
Don't disconnect the under seat connector for the seat with battery
connected if you are going to disconnect it at all. If you do it will cause airbag error it can be reset with a coding setup.
I didn't disconnect the battery for this .
You just need
to lean the seats back to get access.
And what I mean by that is in this document.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...3&d=1329017429

Also you need to be aware if you don't disconnect that battery you most likely
will drain the battery some and may have to recharge it.
And whatever you do don't close the trunk with the battery dissconnected
its and electric trunk lock.

Recoding the output of the Head Unit to Hi Fi will correct the eq problem if you can find a way to do it. You use to be able to do it with a simple coding
setup in the older cars at some point it required a
a more complicated setup called and icom head that programs through the most bus connector.
If you can't do that the Jl cleanweep is the cheapest way to do de-eq. There are some newer amp/processor combinations that will do the job of both a decent amp and processor combo the mosconi 120.4 Dsp and Helix makes and 8 channel
dsp with 55 watts rms per channel but they are not cheap.

wallysboy, if you have the base system you will need to de-eq the signal before you start adding anything. You can buy speakers and amps, but the signal correction is needed for any aftermarket speakers to sound good. You will also either need to pry the 6.5" underseats out of their current enclosures, or buy Hifi underseat enclosures, which are 8" and the woofer is screwed in. Look into the Alpine DSP with the head unit controller, this unit is sold at Crutchfield and although it will require a fair amount of tuning, it has been used by others in E90/E92 BMW's with no mention of noise/hiss. It is rather expensive, but the other amp/DSP combos are also not cheap, Mosconi 120.4 DSP is close to $1000 new. I'm in the same boat as you, each pay period I am trying to buy more pieces to complete the puzzle, hopefully everything of mine will go in this spring.

OzCo- Thanks for the info and suggestions. It is always nice to hear what others have done in similar situations. After spending $$$ for go-fast performance upgrades, the money is a bit tight. I thought I hit the jackpot with a combo De-EQ/Amp for $300 but of course it was too good to be true One step at a time for now.

I'm now using the Fiio E-17 Alpen again. Turns out the static I was getting was from having the volume programmed to be too high in the AirEnabler.

I tried the Audioquest Dragonfly when I thought the Fiio was defective (which it wasn't) and it sounded good, too, but could not get the sound level to come close to matching the other sources (CD, SAT, FM). Plus, the Dragonfly was getting pretty warm. I talked to Audioquest about the use of the Dragonfly in this situation and they said they had never heard of Airplay for the car and did not support the use of their product for this application.

I worked with Qui (from AirEnabler) and we tried some new settings for the Dragonfly but they never worked out very well.

So...I went back to the Fiio, reduced the volume of the AirEnabler from 95 to 85 and bumped up the volume on the Fiio to 58 out of 60 and it sounds great. I see no reason to use anything else at this point. Plus the Fiio can be used as a portable head phone amp.

Wallysboy, you might want to consider a BIT TEN. It has a 4 channels and 1 for your sub. I'm using it in my system. If you buy a BIT TEN D, it comes with a the DRC, but it's a little more expensive.

Excellent reference materials ctuna. I'm sure this idea has been covered before but I didn't see it specifically mentioned (but then again I've read so many threads that I may have missed it). Do you know if simply replacing my Base stereo Professional HU with a HiFi HU would still allow all the steering wheel functions to work etc? Wouldn't have to worry about De-EQing but not sure if all the functions would remain in working order. I could then buy the 2/4 technic harness and an amp.

Don't know exacltly but it still might require some coding

Don't know exactly but it still might require some coding to get whatever
options you have to play. Like SOS and PDC if you have it.
There is thing called the VO Code that determines what is enabled according
to the options list.

This is what is in my radio file for example and I have Hi Fi with SOS and bluetooth phone. This is an 06 wagon with Hi Fi .

There is a Euro Head Unit that looks like the pro head unit now
that has Hd Radio , USB and bluetooth phone built in now but it
requires some tricky programming to get it to play with and old car.

I think I would try to get the existing one programmedto Hi Fi
first. I think the base stereo does require the icom head to get it
to reprogram though. I would see if I could find coder in your area
that would do it. You need to go to the coding subforum to find one.
Also Taibanl had this done I think.
And Makan00 is an expert on this subject.
I believe he said radio 08 and afterward need the icom head
to reprogram them to Hi Fi . If you have a car or radio older than that
it can be programmed with a simple coding cable.
