Center Dash Speaker Blown

I got a 2006 330i in September. On the drive back, I was so excited I was blaring music and I must have busted the center speaker then. There was a buzzing/rattling noise that has been getting progressively worse coming from the speaker. I want to replace it. Does anyone have any experience doing this? It seems like the panel that covers the speaker and the vents can just pop off and I assume the speaker can just be unscrewed or something. The dealership wants $130 for the speaker and another $130 for installation. Is this something I can do myself? Thanks in advance.

Is that price cost? I called the dealership and they originally quoted me $117, but then went down to $91 saying that was "wholesale".

Get it from Tischer - it'll probably be even less that what's in the pic...

I went ahead and just bought the speaker for $91 from the dealership because the speaker was really pissing me off and I had time today. The screws were philips though, so I'm not sure if that is a problem or if something had been tampered with. The whole thing took me 10 minutes to do and it sounds great. Thanks for all of your help!

Wow, it's that much?? I just brought my car in for that same reason (as well as my right door speaker being blown).

Thank god it's covered under warranty until April 2010.

Sorry to hear that. It will be overpriced (since BMW audio parts are very price inflated) but not too expensive too fix it. But hopefully you can get it fixed under warranty.

For what it's worth - this happened to my 2006 330i also around the same time. Glad to hear that the trim pops out without a lot of effort. I was worried - Radio and speakers are not covered by the certified pre-owned warranty :-/

Does anyone know the size of this speaker so I can look for it on other sites. I feel I can find a better price than the dealership can offer.

FYI guys, L7 sounds much better with the center channel disconnected and the L7 "surround sound" off. Give it a shot. The only problem with unscrewing the Philips head screws for the center speaker is that the windshield limits the amount of space you have to fit a screw driver. You need a thumb driver or ratcheting wrench that you can put a Philips bit into.

Really? That's weird.

Anyways, mine just blew too. Are the speakers different for L7 though? Because that's what I have and I don't want to order just a regular speaker if all of my other ones aren't.

Thats what i got to replace mine. I will let you know how it sounds when I install it.

I can def. tell a difference without the center channel speaker though.

Yes. What L7 "surround sound" does is try to expand stereo music into virtual surround sound. It does an ok job but after many have told me to turn it off, I won't go back. The center channel is the same...sounds better without it. Since your center channel is blown try listening with L7 "surround sound" off and see how you like it. My mother's Range Rover also has L7 and I have turned it off because the music sounds more natural.

That's what I was thinking of doing. Or replacing the whole system with BSW altogether. Let us know.

I ordered the speaker a couple days ago and I hope it comes quick.

I miss that center speaker. when I am driving it sounds like the music is only coming out of one side. When Im riding it sounds like its only coming out of the the other side. That center channel really balances it out for you.

Check this video that BSW posted. Its pretty cool if you ever wanted to know what the inside of your doors look like. Or how to change out the speakers.

Got it done, its not at all bad. System still sounds pretty good, although I can tell a difference and I do miss the center speaker.

Just an update, I got my BSW speaker today and its awesome. I decided to just try the center speaker before getting the whole Stage I to see if I could tell a difference and I definitely can! I love it, probably will upgrade all of them very soon.
