So I bought a pair of chrome grille from the sales forum here. I tried installing couple hours ago, but damn... i just could not take out my stock ones. I know you have grab 2-3 slats with each hand and pull it out with even force. It felt like i was gonna break it if i went any further... Is there a specific way to hold the slats or a different way to take out the grilles ? or should i just pull it out as hard as i can ?

btw i have a '07 328i, trying to install 330i chrome grilles...

They were easy to remove (but were firmly in place) on the E46. For some reason having them integrated in the hood made removal easier.

I just replaced them on my 325 over christmas. They were hard to pull off and did feel like they were going to break, but as long as you dont hold the slats in the middle where they are most vulnerable and closer to the ends, you should be fine to give it a little force

+1 you have to really give it some force. I thought mine were going to break too, but after really reaming on it, it (they) finally came out.

It's a good idea to wear gloves....I cut my hand (not sure what I cut it on) on my first grill, then put my gloves on and had no issues.

use light force if that makes sense, they'll come out mine were a little sticky too

I had major trouble getting mine out, too. I put grip gloves on, got a good hand hold with both hands, and literally just planted my feet spread and started yanking. I was literally moving the car even though it was in park. It finally popped out with a very loud noise, but nothing broke!

Yea they are really hard to get off, but just keep on pulling

take the 4 torx out on the top, you should be able to get your hand down there to push on the tabs that hold it in...

I just did this on my 328 on thursday.

its not a easy even pressure pull.

had to put my finger and press the holding sockets on the top three and the top part of grill came out,

then applied even pressure and the whole grill came out.

putting in the chrome one is just a push.

actually it was VERY easy.

only hard part was holding onto those screws, lost 2 under the engine so i had to grab a magnet and dig um out.

only took about 10 min.

can't believe this threads still alive. haha but yeah i successfully took them out. I just had to wear some gloves and pull them as hard as i could. Pain in the ass.

I just did this today. 20 min job including research. These are not easy to pull off. Gloves are a real help. Give the kidneys a solid yank; I did and no clips broke.

Interesting, I just finished mine and it took me a whole 10 minutes, 5 minutes per side and I didn't have to pull and yank like y'all did, all I did was use my index finger to push in the tabs, one on each side and three across the top and the grills came out easily, if your fingers are too stubby ask your lady to push the tabs in for you while you pull gently and Bob's your uncle!

about to try this on my 328xi, on Friday, when I get back home. Bimmian instructions seem relatively straight forward, although extra fingers may be useful.
