Seat mat error with INPA
Hi, I am getting a seat mat sensor error, 93C3 OC3 timeout with my 2006 330xi (seat belt and airbag light on). Before I attempt to go to the dealership and see if my car is covered under the recall I am trying to disconnect/reconnect the sensor and clear the code to see if that will fix it. I am using INPA software, and my question is, if I just read and clear the error, would that be enough to clear the lights from the dash (assuming it is a bad connection) or is there any coding involved to get rid of the lights?
This error magically appeared right after my car went in for emissions. Last edited by rjc03001; 01-06-2013 at 09:07 AM.. |

SRS codes, once set, stay until cleared--even if the cause of the fault is corrected. I had the SRS failure on my car and suspected the seat sensor as well (I can't remember the message in the iDrive, but it seemed to point to the seat sensor) but it turned out to be a loose connection on the sensor wire of the battery pyro caused by an improperly installed battery hold-down allowing the battery to flop around going over bumps.

antzcrashing, when you cleared the code, did the airbag/seatbelt lights go out? Was all you did was clear the error in INPA?
GenePoole, was there an error associated with the loose battery terminal? If so, which category in INPA did it fall under and what was the error? |

93B2: ZK10 / Security battery clamp Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed I looked at the battery, which was recently replaced (2 mos again) and noticed that a cable is not connected on one end - the one which is electrically taped and zipped tied to the top of the battery, so I am assuming this is the airbag/seatbelt sensor and all I need to do it plug it in and then clear the code with INPA. If so I just need to find out where it plugs in. I will post a picture of the loose cable shortly. |

If you had the battery clamp activation wire completely disconnected, you'd not have had a 5 minute delay as this gets tested immediately upon ignition. |

I am having the exact same issue since last week.
The cable that is loose on your picture is normal. you need to wiggle the cables that connect in the center, close to the barcode. |

Looked at the battery terminal and did not notice anything seeming loose or disconnected. Nonetheless I applied force to push the two terminals into the receptacles. Then I reset the code again, went for a drive. Stopped and started my car several times with no error, but I am still not convinced because the terminals appeared tight before I tightened them, and last time I reset the code it reappeared the next morning, so I am expecting that. Can someone tell me what these cables do? Are they airbag sensor lines? What do they connect to on the other end of the battery? What exactly does the error message that I got (shown in earlier post) mean?
I feel like I am going to have to go to an indy shop if I cant get this resolved soon |

This cable connects the SRS ECU and airbag sensors to the little explosive charge that disconnects the battery in case of rollover. When the SRS ECU detects an out-of-range resistance to the explosive pod on the battery, it triggers this error (meaning the wire is problematic, the connectors are corroded or loose, or the explosive device itself is defective$$$ ).
If you silenced it by playing with the wires, it is most probably an issue with either the cable having been severed when the battery moved around in the trunk, or the connectors being corroded. You should just leave it as-is, as long as it does not trigger more dash messages, it is not an issue. |

I too had this problem. This is what I found. The failure mode is likely a faulty seat sensor. The sensor purpose is to determine if passenger is less than 30 pounds and if so disable air bags. This is to protect infants and was used only for the US market. There has been a safety recall on the airbag sensor largely due to high failure rate.
There are three ways to resolve. Install new occupancy sensor and reset error code. Likely that this will done under the recall by your Dealer. Also likely that you will be doing something again within ten years at which time it will not be covered. Second option is to disconnect seat sensor, purchase a three wire seat occupancy emulator (box that has diode, resistor), connect to emulator, and reset error codes. The emulator is under $100 and available on eBay. It is called BMW 3 Series Plug Bypass Passenger Seat Occupancy Airbag Sensor Mat. Third is to code out the occupancy sensor, disconnect sensor, reset error codes. For my 06 352i it was changing the line from active to nicht_aktiv for E89_OC3_1 in the ABS module using NCSExpert. You can then verify that passenger airbag is fully functional in INPA. Lastly, a infant should never ride in the front seat. Last edited by George Ab; 01-09-2013 at 03:07 AM.. |

sorry I threadjacked. Original concern is 93c2 seat mat, I was suggesting INPA as route to clear the code hoping error does not recur and mentioned it had recurred in my case.

I only found the 93C3 OC3 error when I scanned with INPA, the battery code was not there. Everything was fixed under the extended warranty at the dealer free of charge.
