are jack pad adapters like this one:
needed for use with a shop lift? is any adapter needed? or can you just lift the car using the plastic jack pads attached to the bottom of the car? thanks. |

I put mine up on a lift all of time on the plastic jack points and never use jack pad adapters. Never any damage. However, curbs do a number on them ;-). Replacements are on $14 from the dealer.

No. The pads are specifically designed for use with an automotive lift. I have lift in my shop and have lifted my car prob 50 times by now. No damage.

do you have the part number for the Jack point? i bought my car with 1 of them a little crushed. i think the only time it could damage the Jack point is when the lifting surface isn't under the entire Jack point.

I use a heavy piece of carpet and a 2 X 4 on mine and have zero issues. I also seldom use the actual jack point but right by the jack point. This is a unibody car and if you are close to the area as in right beside it no harm is done jacking or lifting there...

To the OP, no it won't. I have a personal lift and I have put it in the lift easily 20-25 times using the plastic ones with no problem.

Well it sure did on mine. Its not the jack itself that did it, but the jack stand. None have the appropriate shape so they force on the wall of the little plastic adapter and it get crushed.

Man all of you guys using items such as "an old baseball glove", "a heavy piece of carpet", I really hope you are utilizing jack stands once the car is up in the air....

After its up then you can put towers on the side jack points I destroyed one of the plastic jack points using a standard jack to lift the car up. Learned the hard way. |

I dont care where you jack a car up from, using a baseball glove and or piece of carpet to aid in jacking a car up isnt what I would consider the best way to accomplish getting jack stands under a car. I see no reason to use anything to jack a car up at the jack point location. You arent going to damage anything there as long as your careful. The only area of concern for damage would be the plastic jacking points, hence the Jack Pad Adapters. If cars were meant to be lifted with baseball gloves, they would come equipt with a Rawlings (maybe even autographed by Jose Canseco... if your lucky) next to the invisible spare tire in your trunk. You guys can all do as you please, not going to affect me one way or the other, but the last guy who had a few thousand lb car land on him... thought his plan of attack was bullet proof too!

Seriously though, I assume you're smart enough to use jack stands instead of relying on a jack to keep the car in the air by itself. Since you can't exactly swap them while the car's in the air, one is either jacking using the jack point and using the jack stand on a different spot or vice versa. Do you use any sort of protective layer for the off-jackpoint contact or no? |
