When you're permanently clothed in a white suit, helmet and tinted visor, 'reality' must be relative...

OTOH, my street/track build is finished pending last minute alignment and suspension tuning so a dyno day is coming up next week. I ordered one of these intakes for the heck of it to throw at the car for no other reason than it sounded like fun. The shop's agreed to run a baseline, swap the intake muffler for this tube, and run again without changing anything. All work's done on a DynoDynamic in a climate controlled environment and is the same dyno the car's been on before. Will there be a difference? Doubtful at best, +/-5hp is pretty much the uncertainty afaic. Does it matter? Nah. But since the shop will be 'race' tuning the engine on the dyno above and beyond the current tune it really doesn't matter. Everybody needs a hobby...

Only for MYs 07 and 08. At least that's what they say.

A better suggestion is a Euro Mod - with a large Cone intake and no front of the Box - making it essentially a Injen

I never claimed to be an engineer. I took my car apart one day and noticed something I thought should be improved. I have replaced many stock intake hoses with aftermarket silicone on previous vehicles. After searching and finding nothing I presented the idea to a friend of mine that produces parts for VW/Audi. The hose you see in this thread is the outcome. To me, and a few others there is a noticeable difference. For some it's a better looking alternative to the stock hose. The stock hose is made of cheap plastic that gets brittle over time. This is a nicer replacement for when that happens. This may not be a huge performance mod but it looks good, gives a little more sound and is priced very reasonably. |

The silicone hose is well designed for what it is and the price is fair for a short run item, no complaints. Since the engine's on solid mounts now the bellows of the intake muffler wouldn't last long so this is a reliability measure to me more than anything else. I appreciate you making the effort to get it to market. Now if I could find silicone replacements for the cooling lines...

Makes sense. And it might yield a bit of an improvement but it requires the stock airbox and I've had the Performance Intake installed since a couple of weeks after I bought the car so it won't fit at all. Can't even get a K&N or Green Filter for it but it's a BMW Performance filter so it's all good. Gotta be good, costs five times as much as the stock filter.

Silicone hose fits my Euro Performance airbox perfectly - the outlet after the MAF is exactly same size as my old std. airbox - don't know why the US PI would be any different, as it retains the OEM Standard rear half of intake with same outlet & only replaces front half of box

Well I would've lost a lotta money betting on the outcome of dyno testing, boy was I ever wrong.
Baseline - 201hp is with too tight a tie-down, the tires didn't lunge off the rear roller. 206hp is the baseline after the tie-down was corrected. Ran another couple of baselines after I got there - ~205hp and ~209hp. Then installed the RM intake duct - ~214hp. Blown away, how could this be? note you can see adaptation taking place in the first and third run, each run the average of three. Another run to see if this was a fluke. It wasn't. 217.6hp Yet another run 'cuz this was getting ridiculous. 218.9hp Um. Yow. Who'd'a'thunk'it? The AA 3-stage tune for headers was uploaded last August and untouched to date. Headers added more than 10rwhp and the RM intake more than 10hp. Very likely the intake improvement wouldn't occur without the ceramic coated and Kevlar wrapped headers but that's just a guess on my part. [edit] Headers added a bit more than 10hp going by the average of the 205/206/209hp runs. Average of the dyno runs after uploading this tune was ~193hp, down from an average of 196.5hp for the 3-stage intake tune but not for headers. Today's average of three runs w/o intake mod is 207hp and the average of the three runs with the intake mod is 217hp. So to be more accurate the headers allowed the header-specific tune to increase rwhp about 14hp, neglecting differences in run dates, and the intake mod provided an increase of 10hp, not more than 10hp, sorry about that. Still an awfully impressive improvement. [/edit] Here's the installed intake And here's the car on the dyno I got a vid of one run and will post it as soon as I figure out how to compress it. Bottom line is this is the best $60 spent improving horsepower, at least in the context of the rest of the mods anyway, wouldn't promise this sort of improvement by itself. Purty kewl huh?

i'm really hot for some silicon hose right now....for my car
so instead of cutting off that little nub on the intake tube, can't you cut a small hole in the hose to go over that little nub on the intake tube? I don't like making permanent changes to the car like that. :\ Last edited by tuphdc; 07-30-2014 at 05:38 PM.. Reason: added question about nub |

Easier to post a dropbox link to the video until I get enough bandwidth to download it directly...
[edit] link removed [/edit] Literally painfully loud. Not that that's a bad thing...

Yeah, pretty much what we said at the shop. I thought the dyno was broke...

this is pretty cool
So do we take this as a fluke, or are these really giving ~10 hp
