Angry Anyone else waiting on NAV activation code?

So I got my new car last Tuesday and the sales guy said they usually get the NAV activation code within 24 hrs but most likely the same day. The next day I called and they said the system was down nation wide. It's now been over a week and I still cannot use my NAV. I'm pretty pissed off to say the least. Can anyone else confirm if this is a nation wide issue or is it just local to my dealer?

FWIW, I picked up my '11 last night from the dealer and my NAV is/was working perfectly.

NAV activation code?

Huh?

Should be working when you turn the car on mate.

Are you sure you don't mean Sirius?

new 11 models have an activation key code needed to get the navigational system to start. I'm in a 2011 335d (which is pretty awesome imo) that the navigation isn't working and is prompting me for a key.

No, it's the code to enable the NAV. It's just a simple 5 digit code they enter to enable it. Usually done before you pickup the car but my dealer is blaming BMW for the delay.

wtf??? the only thing that you should be waiting for is the account setup for bmw assist... the nav feature should work right off the bat, the dealer should've had that code before they even take customers for the test drive

You need to call BMWNA right now, seriously.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Well, just got off the phone with BMWNA and they confirmed their system is currently down and they don't have an ETA when it will be back up.

Great.

It is not "a simple 5-digit code", it is a software encryption key loaded thru ISTA/P.

You can type it in on the iDrive screen.

I picked up my 2011 335i coupe on a Friday and while the CA was showing me features etc we noticed NAV would not start and prompted for the activation code. He apologized for the screw up and got right on it. We talked to the head tech and he explained he has to submit the VIN to BMWNA for them to issue a new code. By the next morning they (dealer) emailed me a code that I typed into the iDrive screen and it worked. Seems to me the code was around 16 characters or so long.

You would think this is something that would be done at the factory or at the port during prep... maybe it just got missed on my car.

What you got was the Map enable code (FSC) and it is 20-characters long.

For that activation code prompt to show your iDrive must have already the Navigation FSC loaded by ISTA/P.

Two different things.

It prompts me for a code too when I go to the NAV screen. What that code is I don't know/care. I just want my damn NAV working. 9 days and counting...

Well, you should care as this is a matter of the parts department and not service. And that's important as it can save you trip to the dealer, unecessary and sometimes troublesome programming sessions as the Map FSC can be sent by email in pdf.

A call to the parts department could solve this as they are supposed to order that FSC thru the BMW Aftersales Portal website. They can tell you today if the system is back or not... 9 days is excessive.

But they keep telling me the system is down. I really don't think they are simply ignoring me. Even BMWNA told me they were having system issues.

I'm not questioning if the system is down or not, I'm questioning 9 days of the system being down and why your Map FSC was not generated by delivery. After all, the dealer had that VIN for some time before selling that car to you and this was not the Nav FSC... so this is way longer than 9 days.

I don't get it. Others are buying their BMW's after you did and they get up and running, but you can't because it's still DOWN? Makes no sense to me. Someone is spreading the BS.

I don't live in your country - in Portugal, Europe - but my dealer also forgot to activate the nav before he handled me the car. Anyway, I was not going to leave the car there for activation!!
He e-mailed me the code some days after (I guess about a week). Now it's working great!

I picked up mine 2 weeks ago and the nav was working perfectly. When I was getting my papers, he gave me a sheet all written in German with a long sequence of numbers/letters which also had another 5 digit code. My SA said "don't lose this, it's the key for your nav if you need updates. I hope you make out alright.
