Good day at Bren Tuning

After being pointed to Bren Tuning by Dave (dave96dcm) and spending a good amount of time with Bren on the phone, I went to his shop today in Ayre to have my car receive a stock ECU tune.

This tune produces roughly an additional 40hp and 60 lb ft of torque at the wheels. I didn't feel the need to verify this on the Dyno (but maybe another trip in the future will present itself), these are simply the numbers Bren provided me during our talks. I didn't spend much time with Bren today as he was focused on doing his magic on the Dyno for a couple of Subaru WRX's. Instead of Bren, it was Aaron who actually performed the tune.

While I never felt that my car was slow or that there was any serious turbo lag, the tune takes its performance level up quite a few notches!

Step on the gas (especially when in DS or manual mode) and the car now springs forth and pulls hard. I didn't take out a stop watch, so I have no idea how much faster the car is 0-60, but I do know that I can feel a big difference in initial acceleration, as well as when punching it while already moving.

I know this is just an initial report, but I am incredibly happy with the job that Bren and Aaron did with my car. For me, the performance gains and the professional job they performed more than justifies the cost associated with the tune. In fact, I can't see how one can get a better performance improvement for the money!!

Highly recommended.

BTW, right before me a 328xi was tuned. That person also seemed very, very happy with the improvements.

Would you mind sharing how much the tune was? What, if any warranty there is?

I think there are different costs for N54 vs. N55 for the straight ECU tune. Just to be clear, this is a software only tune - no additional parts or changes.

Let me talk with Bren and either get him to post here or make sure he is ok with me publishing what he charged me.

As for warranty, are you asking about Bren Tuning's warranty or what happens to your BMW warranty?

In terms of Bren Tuning, he fully stands behind the tune and you can bring it back at no cost if the tune were to be overwritten during a dealer visit. Bren has been very customer focused in my dealings with him and this was one of the reasons why I went with him. He seems like the kind of guy who will go above and beyond for his customers.

George,

Any issues since you've had the tune? I am planning to get this as well and would like to know if you've ran into any problems.

Any noticeable difference in fuel economy?

Zero issues!

MPG has dropped by 1-2 MPG. But that is because I am throwing into DS mode and driving a lot more aggressively than before.

Does Bren Tuning perform their own DME reflash, or do they tune on a baseline COBB, etc. tune?

It's their own tune.

Best way to get details is to contact Bren directly.
