E92 MT with 23000 miles and I need new brakepads?

It's a 2007 MT with nearly 23000 miles. I have the Red BRAKE light on my display that will not go out. I thought maybe a faulty sensor. I took off front wheel and took this picture.

Back on 10/31/2010, the dealer measured and recorded the brake thickness of 6 mm and greater. The mileage was 21500 back then. What did they measure?

Do I have any brake pad left?

That's what I was hoping to hear. I guess I'll just have to manually inspect because I can't rely on the service interval indicators.

I've read through some of the posts regarding the red Brake warning displayed on console. I've confirmed all of the pads have plenty of meat.

I also toggled through the service info and it shows 0 miles on the front and rear brakes. I guess this is why I am getting the warning that will not go away.

I unplugged sensor and plugged it back in. No change.

Is there any way to get this computer to recognise I have several thousand miles left on these pads? I don't think putting in new sensors is going to work.

There's a good 50% left on the pictured pad. You probably have a sensor problem, but that is not good news as it cost almost the same for changing the sensor than the pads themselves, but without certitude of what tripped it in the first place.

Perform a visual inspection of the sensor, be careful if you want to remove it, it breaks easily when pulling on it. With that much pad left, it should not have started to grind on the rotor yet.

It's a software glitch on the 07 cars. I would think by now that all of the older would have been updated by now.

Replace your brake pad wear sensor, faulty code thrown.

It is not the sensor. The sensor does nothing until it makes contact with the rotor and the outer cover is worn away exposing the bare wire inside it. The sensor does nothing until this point. The mileage countdown is based on driving style .

Success! I finally figured out the right sequence of toggles to the odometer and post. Once I got the yellow triangle, I pushed the post. That got me to the Reset setting. Once I was in the Reset option, I could toggle to the front and rear brake warnings. Once I was on them, I held in the post button and it went through the reset.

It put 80000 on the front brakes, and 50000 on the rear. I don't know if this had anything to do with me pulling out the sensor on the front and unplugging and then plugging it back in. In any case, the red Brake is gone.

Here's a look at my rear brake that has 50000 miles before needing a change
