Angel Eyes = DRL

I want to convert my Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to use the Angel Eyes instead of the standard DRL's. What's the best way to accomplish that? Can the car be coded, or should I install a product like the Vista DRL Harness?

http://www.namotorsports.net/detail....IE90DRLHarness

I saw an E90Post member (window sticker) with AE DRLs yesterday in Renton and liked it. Black (gray?) E90 plate was something like 497 UVS.

Can you code a car that doesn't have iDrive?

Hey Blackbird (kevin?) I think you emailed me but anyway just as ez_2get says you can only do this for 03/2007 build and up which would then be equipped with frm2 module. Otherwise the harness is the way to go. Check your door stickers for build date and let me know. Thanks.

Build date is July 2007, so I should be good to go.

ez2_get - thanks for the good info.

rentonrider - yep, it's me. See you tomorrow afternoon.

If that doesn't work (sounds like it already did) - you can also use realoem.com to get specific information about your vehicle by entering the last 7 digits of your VIN. It can give you a lot of useful info.

Question Please enlighten me

I am in the same situation, with a 5/2007 335i.

What does it take to reprogram the DRL? I have the cable and software but don't know where to start.

Thanks

Might want to hit up the Coding forums. I'm a little lazy to post links, but maybe Rentonrider can tell you off the top of his head.

Well first you need to setup your software. Read the tutorials in the coding section of this forum as atown says. Once connected, tap into FRM module and change the following. Hope this helps. Happy coding.

TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_1 --> aktiv
VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL --> drl_s
DRL_TFL_MIT_SML --> aktiv

I have a question that popped in my head just a few minutes ago as I sit around waiting for my cable to come in for coding.
My DRL's of course are on during daytime, when it gets dark, they shut off and the headlights turn on.
If I switch the DRL lamps to AE as DRL, would that shut the AE off when the headlights turn on when it get's dark?

I haven't read anything about that happening but wanted to double check. I hate the DRL lights and want the AE as DRL but not if I am going to lose the AE when the headlights turn on.

Thanks

I'm confused. I thought the AE WAS the DRL? Is there another bulb?

You don't lose ae at night.

For coupes, your AE act as your drl. For sedans, it's not. Google drl for e90s and you'll see... Hope this answers your questions.

Setting the AE's as DRL has nothing to do with brightness. Your AE brightness will remain the same before and after coding.

So let me understand this, even we don't have the navigation, we can use this coding if we have the software and cable? Where do I get the software and cable and roughly how much?

Visit the coding section of e90post.com. There's plenty of info and diy instructions there. Happy coding.

Nope, brightness not adjustable from factory. You can adjust it via coding (voltage). Anyhow, feel free to PM if you have further questions.

i'd like to pm you but.. newbee it takes 5 post to pm someone.. so,for the people in my case:
- Car (335xi 2008) is in Canada (dont have the option to turn off drl on the cluster and no Idrive), built date 11/07... so with these lines
TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE_1 --> aktiv
VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL --> drl_s
DRL_TFL_MIT_SML --> aktiv
i'll have ae set drl. With this code, does ae will light up when doors unlock?
After that, if I want to have white ae (to replace the yellow one) I have to change these bulb for lux bulb or other aftermarket bulb..
Than, if I want my ae more bright, go back to coding and change voltage...
Am I right? Do you have all these codes? Where can I find them?
Thank a lot for your time.. I know is a lot of question but after many hours to search the net, you seem to be the one who can help me!!
after my 5th post.. i'll pm you.
charles
