The UK way is to buy cheap replicas of OEM wheels actually. Because reps are cool right?

Oem wheels are actually undesirable in multiple ways.
Boring average appearance
Cast, not forged or flow forged
Heavy
Limited sizes
Expensive

Putting wheels from one model on another looks ridiculous. The owner looks like they picked up a set of cheap second hand wheels and can't afford the correct ones.

Aftermarket wheels have the exact opposite characteristics listed for oem.

Reps are useless.

If you want to spend a lot of money for an inferior quality wheel that nobody notices, get oem. If you want to spend less for a superior quality wheel that outperforms and has styling that suits you as an individual get aftermarket.

Lol this thread!

I went for style 313 reps and it isnt because i cant afford originals lol. I looked at aftermarket ones but couldnt find an aftermarket style wheel that i really liked.

Each to their own i guess!

Do they not import aftermarket wheels to the UK or is importation so expensive it's prohibitive? Still don't get it.

Ive seen a lot of after market alloys online and on this forum but I feel a lot can look out of place sometimes. I think ill get 19" m6 reps.. They look too good to me. 20" in that pic look too big!

It's nothing to do with affordability. I don't think you see that.
It's just that most aftermarket wheels look chavvy. There, I've said it.

Accurate though. Honestly surprised me how many people are happy to put replicas of BMW wheels on their car. You can almost guarantee if you see a set of CSL's or M359's that they're a replica of some kind.

Also American dude with the E93, your cars cool but wtf are you doing? Holy thread high jack man, don't just post your car everywhere with any thin excuse. This thread was literally about if people liked one wheel style, not how wide a tyre you've fitted on your hugely expensive aftermarket wheels.

The M6GC wheels almost suit that E92 M3, they can just about pull off a 20" wheel, but they are a bit modern looking, I never personally like cross generation wheel swaps. Bet they'd look amazing on an F8X though.

Ok well I don't like those wheels, even on an M6. I really don't see any difference between reps and oem either. They're both cast. They both look the same. At least the reps maybe come in different sizes. Most oem wheels have as much passion and style as a slug really. I do like the BBS LM and LM-R wheels. Do you guys have any opinion on those?

Hey Sabin

I've been chuckling over this thread the last few days.....

At the end of the day mate its your car, your rules. If you like em then get em. Be thrilled with them and move on to your next mod. Screw what every other f*cker thinks.

Opinions are like *rseholes mate. Everyone has them and all our tastes are different. To me, some BMW style wheels fitted to other models look great. But that's my taste and my opinion. To make a sniffy blanket statement that to buy replica wheels is simply not the thing to do simply makes me laugh.

And boy...... are there some opinionated people on this thread???

To me, bronze wheels look bloody awful on any colour car.

But if the owner thinks they are great then that's all that matters and I would nevery bluntly dismiss someone else's taste out of hand.

To try and force ones opinions down other's throats is where I draw the line. The whole point of forums like these is our diversity of tastes and ideas.

Thats what you get for asking for opinions in this thread I suppose......you get some considered opinion and some black or white thinking.

My personal opinion is they are a little fussy for my taste. I prefer something a little more simple. But I love the deep dish.

Good luck mate - would love to see pics on your car if you get them

Need to figure out a caliper color now. Colors on the car, white body, black accents, carbon fiber, copper, red tails, Dakota interior with black carpet, stainless window trim. Was thinking red, silver, black, gold. Any suggestions?

Cars in the shop getting a burst outlet coupler replaced. Needs a wash, and I plan on doing the bumpers next. 1M front bumper with 6 series led fogs, and repaint rear. I'll take pics after its washed.

Cast wheels don't immediately mean bad, cheap reps will be made with poor materials, often have air pockets inside etc, a decent cast wheel will be fairly heavy though. The M6 wheels would be Forged though, as all M Car wheels are. Obviously the reps wouldn't be though!

Reps are bad though, ripping off designs is one thing, original designers/companies not getting paid for what they've done, but even worse if they're also dangerous. Not all are, but they're out there, and it's pretty hard to tell until it's too late. Just last week a replica M3 wheel broke causing a friend to have an accident and write off his E36, luckily no one was hurt but a regular wheel just wouldn't have suddenly failed like it did.
