i personally love my 328i because i have the m package which is a huge plus. though the only thing is i love the dual exhaust look of the 335, but power wise, the 328 is enough for me

I also know nothing when I made my first BMW purchase. I started lurking on forums months after the pruchase and tried to learn about it as much as I could. I don't regret owning a 2010 328i E90. In fact, happy I owned one
The same reckless buying experienced happened again to me last month. I purchased a 2013 Merc C250W before doing homework. Oh well, I am learning the hard way

For the first 100,000 miles I did a little. For the next 100,000 I won't.

I just bought a 328ix yesterday and got buyers remorse within the first few hours of owning it because I saw a 335ix with the same color up for sale that wasn't up on autotrader.com

So now I'm contemplating which is better:

2011 328ix with 11k miles with cold weather, premium, and convenience package

or do I take the loss for the trade and go for the 2011 335ix with 26k miles with everything

I don't regret it at all. I've driven cars that are significantly faster than the 328i before. The one I've called my own and was much faster was a 2009 WRX. I've otherwise done some thorough test drives with a WRX STI and a Nissan 370Z.

More power is always nice and I certainly wouldn't complain about having it, but for daily use and on public roads, the 328i is more than enough for me. It has enough power for passing on the highway and wayyy more than enough power for my entirely urban commute. Now if I were to look for a fun "toy" car to enjoy on the weekends or the occasional weekday commute, then I'd absolutely want something with more power.

I could definitely see the appeal in having a 335 though if your regular driving involves more highway/country roads.

In general though, I'm more than happy with my car and I don't feel jealous or sad when I see a 335. Props to those who have 'em though. The N52 is the last of its kind and the N55 is definitely a great piece of work too.

That said, BMW's turbo I4 has some NVH issues that bother me to the point where I'll probably look at a turbo I6 for my next BMW if I can't find a used NA I6 BMW in good enough condition. I'm hoping to find a manual 128i when my fiancee will probably replace her car next year. She'll get my 328. I want the 128, hahah.

After seeing all the headaches people have with 335s I really dont. My 330i has enough power and everything I like. Cheers!

That's probably the wrong reason to buy a BMW 3er in the first place, but it's a reason, and BMW love you for it. It is true that BMW offers colors and interior/exterior combinations that may not be available from other car makers, so maybe some folks buy one for that reason. But once one gets past the colors, BMW 3ers don't do/offer anything more than manyf other , cars do, except that they handle better than the other similar cars (daily driver, utility cars) you can buy at the same price or for less money. Indeed, but for the handling, I may well have bought an Accord, Lexus or Infiniti. If the handling isn't a top priority, you can get everything else a BMW offers for good deal less money, especially if looking fast is the motivation. So, were that my motivation for buying one -- 335 or 328 -- I too would have have some buyer's remorse.

As for "it's a BMW" factor, well, with $2 and the allure of it's being a BMW, you (and all the rest of us BMW owners) can now go to Starbucks and get a cup of coffee. I guess that's something.

I bought a 335 and I can't at all call what I feel remorse per se, but I know I'd be just as happy with a 328. There's nothing I can do on public roads that either car doesn't do more than well enough and I only drive on public roads and private driveways.

I absolutely intended to buy a 3er, but I wanted the 328 not the 335. I bought the 335 because the dealer had it on his lot and it had the red interior I wanted, and it had very few options and gizmos -- sport package, heated seats, iPod hookup -- which I also wanted, and it was in a color I liked. Also, as I told the dealer I really didn't want to pay the premium for a 335 motor, he made it financially worth my while to just take the the 335 he had on the lot. (I bought my car new.)

I'm happy with my car. I will keep it for at least 10 years. When I replace it, I won't be seeking a 335 (or it's analogue), but as happened in 2007, I may end up with one if it's made worth my while to do so.

What are you saving your headaches for? You plan to use them on a rainy day or something?

...$6K? Do/did they really cost that much more where you buy them? On BMW's US website, the premium for the E9x 335 was around $3K. If you look at the E92 now, you'll see it's still about $3K. I haven't checked for the F30, perhaps for that model, the difference is $6K.

this means nothing, im about 70k under you and the only major thing i have done that was not covered by a recall or warranty was the turbos and not because i have to, because i WANTED to.

because n54 engines have had hpfp/turbo/injector issues it doesnt mean that the engine wont last as long as any other it just means you're going in knowing those things could go wrong.

I disagree. I've had many fast cars, last one was a 2010 135i M-Sport.
Sold it to buy a 328.

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

No regrets. As a driver's driver, I like to row my own gears and get to enjoy the feeling and acceleration just a little longer with a slower car.

One bootful in the 135i and I was on the verge of getting arrested. I don't need the anxiety.

Accelerating too quickly is like premature ejaculation.

I would have gotten a 335 or an E90 M3 had I not the burden of restarting my family from scratch after moving back from Japan.
