looks like the wheel well tore off. it happened to my acura integra once, but mine completely tore off when i pulled into a driveway. when it happened though, it sounded like i hit something. i got out of my car and there was this big plastic thing on the ground and i thought i just ran over some crap on the ground. i didn't realize what it was till later when my wheel well was missing.
