Coil Spring Interchange

HI Guys,

I've been reading and searching, but I can't find this little bit of info. I have a base 335d with the non-sport suspension and want to upgrade my springs to Factory BMW Sport Springs.

I've found that the front springs I want are D8's and that they're only available on 335d and E93 335i.

For the rears, they're D6.

What other models did those rear D6's come on? I went to realoem, but I couldn't find any part numbers for coils.

I was looking at a kit like that, but i'm concerned that the springs won't be correctly matched to our portly 335d's (compared to a much lighter 328i for instance, there is nearly a 500 lb diff)

I was hoping to match the correct sport springs to a set of FSD's

yatzee I have the Koni FSD's great choice, as far as modding it may not affect it , I did it on my 02 MCS and that was in 2006 and the car is STILL running with FSD's and OEm Sport Suspension Springs, now our car is heavy. I confered with Mr. Lee Grimes head of sales for ITT Koni and he told me it would not affect the schocks at all, so go for it ok and suerte amigo!!

BTW I also have the FSD's installed on my NON sport 335d and thinking in getting lower springs but the roads down here are ATROCIUOS!!

the roads are terrible here too. Id really prefer just plain old D sport springs, but Im not able to find a used set. i was hoping to find what other springs those cars came on

A performance pack would be nice, but probably too aggressive for my area

I suggest contact Tire Rack contact Alex at ext 294 and ask for his advice, tell him Axel from Puerto Rico sent you, BTW if you want to wait, wait until next end of spring begining summer Koni gives out a 20% discount on FSDs well WORTH it, thats what i did saved myself over $200

i probably will wait until after pothole season (post winter). In the meantime, if anyone has a set of D sport springs, let me know

If you're not dead set on lowering the car, you may be surprised how much changing the dampers does to sort out the handling. I have Bilstein B6 HDs on my non-sport with stock springs: no wallowing, much improved road feel and body roll. It even verges on being a bit stiff, though the soft springs make the ride compliant over harsh bumps. The stock dampers on the non-sport cars are valved WAY too soft from the factory. I think BMW missed the mark there.

I removed my stock sport springs today. D7 fronts and D6 rears. My car has auto (of course), nav, premium, sport... Not sure what heavier options exist that would have allowed the D8. Anyhow, I'm selling them if you're interested. $150.

I'm not dead set on lowering the car, but It would improve the look a bit IMO. I don't want something dragging along the ground either...

I'm actually realizing that the stock sport suspension wasn't that bad. It was mainly my 19" wheels or 18" run flats on stock wheels that made it ride so terrible.

I'm aware that if I had 18's and slightly larger tires than stock (235/265) I would be much more comfortable.
