Ipod/Bluetooth Retrofit for 2007 328i - DONE!

After reading several of the threads about retrofitting the ipod interface, I decided to start my own and give all the details that are lacking in other threads.

Vehicle: 2007 328i (01/2007 Production)

Ipod Interface Purchased: 65 11 0 036 446 (from Tischer/getbmwparts.com - $280 shipped) This item is car specific so this might not be the exact part for your car. If you buy it from getbmwparts.com you must provide your VIN and they will send you the correct part for your car. Everything that is needed to retrofit your car is in the kit. I've attached some pictures to this thread with what everything looks like.

Additional Items: I also purchased a Proclip console mount and iPhone 3g passthrough adaptor (www.proclipusa.com). Now the main issue is the fact that the BMW kit will not charge the iphone 3g. So, to address this issue, I ordered a converter from cablejive and an iphone extension cable. (www.cablejive.com). This converter allows the BMW kit to charge my iPhone 3g.

I had the ipod kit run into the center console where it plugged into the cable jive converter. I then hooked the cable jive extension cable into the converter and ran that out the right side of the console and into the proclipusa iPhone 3g passthrough adaptor. The iPhone 3g charges and works like a charm with the radio! Little FYI, this retrofit requires dealer programming.

Bluetooth Information
Here is a parts list for my retrofit.

61319197782, roof switch, $266.54 (Makes sure you get the right one for your car)
84109181230, rmfd tcu, discountable to $375.75 + $50.00 core (Makes sure you get the right one for your car)
65159135687, bracket, $13.20
07129906048, hex nuts, 0.57 each (4 of these)
84506928461, bluetooth antenna, $17.61
84316938762, hand free mic, $23.82
65136938657, loudspeaker, $14.62
65206935024, back-up antenna, $23.55

Remember, some of these parts are vehicle/color specific, so make sure you ask before you buy. I recommend talking to the guys at Tischer, they can look up exactly what you need and give you one hell of a discount. I uploaded the pictures of these items.

As for the actual refit, man was that a nightmare. The install of the parts took all of 2 hours. The hard part (for the service center) was figuring out how to code the car to get it to work. They were using an older version of Progman (the bmw coding thing) and it didnt like my "new" part numbers. After several AIM sessions w/ the guys at Tischer I was able to convince the guys at the install shop the parts were correct and they were doing something wrong w/ the coding. The issue (I found this out when i got my car) was the shop was looking at older instructions that didnt have the "new" parts listed. Even after all this, the roof switch (FZD) just didnt want to work. So they looked at the old part number, put that in Program and bam, it took it and worked.

BMW Assist, Bluetooth ONLINE. Downloaded all my contacts and works perfectly. Little echo when you call people, but other than that, its awesome.

Other Upgrades
I went ahead and installed the Euro light switch and the blacklines. You can find the DIY on those here:

Blacklines: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4660
Euro Switch: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75343

I also bought a Magellan GPS and the hard wire power cable for that. Gonna post a DYI on that one as soon as i get the cable and the proclip mount for it.

FINALLY:
If you have any questions about a retrofit or my experiences, drop me a PM.

Quick question for anyone who has the bmw ipod retrofit installed and used the iphone 3g: When its connected, can you still receive calls?

Next, I will have them run the cable into the middle console where it will exit from underneath the console into the proclip passthrough holder. I'll post more on this when it happens. Probably middle of this month. I'll also add more pictures of the final product.
I did a custom install a couple weeks ago and mounted the interface inside the center console, with the i-pod cable coming up inside the center armrest so the i-pod could be left in the armrest instead of glovebox.. No extra extension cables or anything.

Received the cablejive parts today. I tested the converter on an ipod dock i have that I know wont charge my iphone 3g and it worked like a charm. Then added the 6ft extension in there and still worked. Quick note, the cablejive cable is a real quality cable. Same goes for the charge converter.

Looks like all systems go.

Interesting. Might not need the extension then.

On another note, dude, those chicks are all over your car. Pretty sure they left fingerprints and if your weren't careful, dents! Keep those chicks in check!

Do you really need to go a dealer to activate the kit after own installation?

thanx enforcerman for this great info.
I have a 3G iphone and would like to install the ipod kit for my car w/ Idrive. Dealers here are asking $400 for the kit and $150 for installation, what a rape in price!
My dealer advised to wait since bmw should release a new kit for the 3g iphone so it can get charged. hopefully the new part is out soon so I can order from getbmwparts.com
Let us know how the installation goes, I like to do the installation myself but w/ idrive it might be complicated.

I think the installation wont be that complicated since the ipod adpater will be swapped with cd changer plus.
The only thing I worry about is the activation things. Is there anyone know whether the activation is mandatory by a dealer?

If the Ipod cable is being swapped with CD changer plus, then we would have to take it to the dealer to have it activated unless you already have a CD changer active and just swapping the cables.
I had asked my dealer about it as well to enable the option it is $60 here.

Currently, I have a 6cd changer working and willing to swap with the ipod kit, then I won't need an activation again??

That's very great information, now it's time to order it, thanx

Good luck with the iPod and bluetooth. Are you going to do it or the dealership?
I had the dealership install my iPod connector under the center armrest for 2 hours of labor (including progman). Surprisingly, the dealership did an excellent job!

So you got the MOST interface, which is the dealer-installed iPod solution. Did you consider trying to do a USB/6FL retrofit (which I know does not exist out of the box at this time)?

Also, did you read up on the limitations of the MOST interface? i.e. 500 song/artist listing limitation? My iPod only shows artists up to the letter J.

I know the limitations. I dont have a ton of music, at least not loaded on the iphone. As for the USB retrofit, if that every occurs, I might have that put in. Just got tired of waiting. To be honest, the ipod thing is more of a charger than player :P More pictures of the install and how it looks tommorrow.

I would LOVE to do the USB retrofit BUT I am tired of waiting, too. I like the dealer installed MOST interface and I have not once been bummed about its limitations.

I found to like CD1, which is the playlist view and none of my playlists have 500 songs yet.

Yup. That is the way to go. I think I have about 25 playlists. It loads rather quickly.
