New low-dust OEM pads?

Hi All,

I've seen some rumors in posts here about new BMW OEM brake pads that produce much less dust than the older ones. Can anyone confirm that's the case?

I have an '09 335i sedan and the dust is starting to annoy me, but would prefer to stick with OEM as opposed to Akebono or something else (worried about squeal and reduced bite).

I just called my local dealership and they confirmed the brake pad part number changed in September '09, but the guy I spoke to couldn't tell me whether that was a change to lower-dust pads or not. Has anyone gotten new OEM pads in the last couple years and noticed reduced dust? Or can someone with a post 9/09 car tell us how much theirs makes?

Thanks!

I drove a 335i that rolled off the line after that date for a week or so at one point, and in my honest opinion they weren't that much better, if there even was a difference. I think you'd be very happy with some sort of ceramic brake bad. The brake dust they produce is minimal in comparison. Hawk Performance has always been good to me and we have them on all the race cars (World Challenge Corvettes, World Challenge GT-R's, etc.) at the shop I've been helping with a porsche build. No complaints here.

They did change to a low dust pad in late 09. My 10 has them and it is conciderably less than the older ones. HOWEVER!!! I have cracked the front pads twice. Now I'm moving on to aftermarket rotors and pads. Yes I drive rather agressive sometimes and the low dust pads can't handle the heat the older pads could.
