valve cover gasket & oil filter housing gasket

The dealer says that I need to replace these gaskets which are leaking. They want 1800 total to do the job. Can anyone tell me the exact part numbers I will need so I can go ahead and order them and get them done somewhere else?

2007 335i e90

I believe I found the correct parts on getbmwparts.com, but the prices I found them on there for seem quite different than the dealer quoted price.

valve cover gasket $33.34 (dealer quoted $67)

oil filter housing gasket $12.08 (dealer quoted $55)

Best and probably the most reliable source for oem part numbers.

Dealer is a ripoff. Find a local shop that sells at least near retail price and is familiar with the N54. They will need the proper tools to replace the injector seals, since the injectors must be pulled to remove the cover.

You also have to drain some of the coolant to replace the filter housing gaskets. Also a good idea to change the oil, too.

James.....

Do you know whether the injector seals can be replaced and then press the tip back into the metal cap for storage to replace the injector at another time in the future?

I woud like to pull some of my injectors for inspection, but don't have the tool to replace the seals......thinking someone with the tool (dealer?) may be able to install new seals and then cap it off for me to pick up and reinstall later?

You should get new bolts for the valve cover job, the bolts cost me over $100 i think

Yes the metal caps taken off new injectors can be used to hold the seals during storage.

New bolts for the valve cover - why? They're steel, not stretched when torqued.

It's possible to remove the valvecover without removing the injectors. You'll need a very deep 10mm socket for 3 of the 'grounding' bolts.

OFH gasket is easy, although the intake mani needs to be loosened/removed so you can reach the 3rd bolt holding the OFH. Maybe look into new intake mani gaskets while you're in there.

For the DIY guys careful on the fuel lines, BMW left mine loose and created a micro leak. Had a pool of gas on the head when I brought it back from this service.

Out of curiosity why would one need to replace these gaskets? What causes them, to leak?

The valvecover gasket also seals the small ports that lead to the PCV system, so if they start to leak from running higher boost on an old gasket you'll get oil in the intake.

Also, it's not a good idea to re-use old gaskets when removing/replacing a part.

Is this a coincidence?

I recently replaced my valve cover gasket on my 2006 330i with the N82 engine. It wasn't easy but I got it done and the problem was solved. Car ran fine after putting everything back together.

Yesterday, I replaced the oil filter housing gasket. The job was fairly easy except I had to partially remove the intake manifold to get to that bolt behind it. Really wasn't that big of a deal but after I put everything back together, the car won't run properly. Starts but idles really rough and evetually stalls. What's puzzling is that the codes indicate a camshaft position sensor problem. I didn't touch that so I am wondering if maybe one or more of the intake manifold gaskets didn't seat properly. Would that cause this problem?

Help!!

N82 engine?
If it's anything like the N52 I can think of 2 possibilities; Did you replace the intake mani gaskets when you took it off?
The wires/plugs for the CPS are on the front sides of the engine. Maybe you damaged one since they're near the same area where you were working?

from real oem,
valve cover gasket 11127565286
ofh gasket 11427537293

1.the injectors do not have to come off to take off the valve cover, just the feed lines from the rail itself to the injectors.
2.3rd bolt on the ofh can be taken out without having to pull off the intake all you need is a swivel socket and 1/4 inch ratchet

I didn't replace the intake manifold gaskets but I am going to tonight. I am also going to pull and clean the vanos solenoids and then check the wiring because I saw that the wiring for one of the valves goes back over the intake manifold. I am thinking that maybe I damaged the wires to that solenoid when I pulled the manifold.
