London...

Went down to London last weekend with my family to see a show, Dirty Dancing wasn't my first choice but it was really good!

We stayed a the Park Plaza at Westminster bridge which was really good, apart from when we got there around 6pm on saturday night to be told our rooms hadn't been cleaned!!! I was pissed off! So they upgraded us to suites FOC which wasn't bad

Think we are going back in April so hopefully grab a meal at Tony's new Gaff. Had a cracking meal at the OXO tower on Sunday lunchtime, X factor and Dermot O'Leary were filming on the balcony which was weird!

Anyway I know some of you like your photography so i thought i would share some pics on took on Saturday night.

Lovely shots, there!
2 and 4 are the best in my book.

How about a link to bigger versions, if you have one...?

Totally agree.

Last year there was talk of a meet at Sytner Harold Wood (organised by Anneka) but it fell through.

Hopefully this year it will happen, BBQ etc...there's a few good routes for a hoon around Essex too.

Would be great.

Great shots. This is why I really need to get up to speed with my new camera - got the hardware but not the knowledge!!! Did you just use a 'standard' lens or anything fancy?? How do you do the blurred lights ones??? Sorry, real amateur here.

Brilliant shots!

Spent a year in the Docklands - had a 6th floor riverside apartment so great 270 degree views (including seeing Concorde on that barge) but never gor shots as good as that!

Oxo Tower is a good un - there old head chef now works down here for Rick Stein.

It was really good, think we are going down on the 30th April after the royal wedding to see jersey boys.

The park plaza was cracking the restaurant Joel was really good and the cocktails in the bar were great especially the 'lemberry' way to easy to drink though!!

Rog i used my canon 1000d and a tamron 10-24 wide angle lens, all the photos above were shot at 10mm. You need to use a tripod and a slow shutter speed to get the lights to blur I think I shot the cars and bus at around 5secs but that will change depending what aperture you are using.

The best place to have a go is a motorway bridge and just try different shutter speeds and see what they look like, try F11 and 8secs and see what you get if it's overexposed drop the shutter speed and vice versa.

Great pics mate. Agree that 2 and 4 are probably the best but the others aren't half bad.

Thanks for the response Paul. In fact, from my limited knowledge so far, I thought your answers would be along those lines. I've got a 550d but just with the standard lens. Am keen on getting a wide-angle lens but hoping to pick up a decent used one as my useage would probably be limited.

No problem rog, you will be able to do it easily with the kit lens but you just won't fit as much in, I can recommend the tamron 10-24 it's a cracking lens also the sigma 10-20 is very good.

Just have a go it's a lot easier than it looks!! Water looks really good with long shutter speeds like in pic 4 it looks smooth and silky that was a 20 sec exposure time.

I was bit nervous walking round central london with all that £££ camera gear! At least I had a tripod as a weapon!!
