IMO, GM just needs two brands...Chevy and Cadillac.

Everything else must go. Who the hell buys a Buick nowadays? Pontiac is just a wannabe cool company that doesn't look as lowgrade as Chevy. Why do you need GMC if Chevy sells the same trucks? Saab is a joke. Saturn makes pretty good cars, but I'd pick a Honda or Toyota over a Saturn anyday.

GM sells lots of Buick's in China.

I say keep Cadillac, Buick, Chevy, and Saturn.

Cadillac can then build world class cars again and not worry about old people because they still have their Buicks. Chevy can build all the trucks, SUV's, and rental cars. Saturn can keep making mid size and small practical cars.

Kill GMC, Pontiac, Saab, Hummer,

GMC duplicates Chevy Trucks
Pontiac duplicates Chevy
Saab might have been good once, but not anymore
Hummers are for idiots

This is fun; this is what I would do…

Cadillac,

Cadillac would have four models. They need a big sedan, a medium sedan, and a small sedan/coupe. All RWD. Just like BMW. Keep the Escalade but put it on a AWD car chassis instead of a truck chassis. All to compete at BMW price points.

Buick,

Buick gets two. They get a comfortable FWD medium size V6 sedan. They also need a AWD crossover. Buicks are now sold at Cadillac dealerships.

Chevy,

Chevy gets 9 lines. They get a sporty RWD medium size sedan and a mass market RWD small sedan. Sports cars like the Camaro and Corvette. They keep the whole line of full size trucks and a line of small trucks. A 4x4 and 4x2 large SUV, 4x4 and 4x2 small SUV, and a FWD crossover people mover.

Saturn,

Saturn gets 3. A small FWD euro-esque sedan , FWD small SUV, and a Econobox. Saturn’s sold at Chevy dealerships.

SAAB will probably be sold. I'm still surprised about the saturn and pontiac plans I think there is still a lot of brand value there. And if I were to buy a GM product it probably would have been a pontiac or saturn. But then again they could just sell the Opels and holdens as chevys and save the cost of running them as separate brands.

I think if anything ford should shut down mercury. There is absolutely no point in the existence of that brand. They have no unique products.
