Voice Activation/Voice Command
Is this feature only available with iDrive. Will having BMW assist give you any kind of Voice Command interaction? Thanks.

Actually, I got a PM from CaptJack saying that if you have BMW assist without iDrive, you do infact get Voice Command, though it is limited to the subset of phone and communications functions only.

Really? Cool! That will give me yet another reason to be excited about getting my car back! The bluetooth works great - and if I can use voice commands that will be awesome. I have the Premium Package, which includes Assist - but I don't have iDrive. So you're saying voice command for the phone still works?

I can confirm that voice commands work great without IDRIVE.
I have 325i with premium pkg and regular radio, not logic7. All the voice command functions work for phone usage. I have Motorola v505 and it pairs well and was easy to program everything following the manual for the radio and/or owners manual. |

After reading E90Mono's post, I read my manual (didn't have access to my car). I got my car back yesterday and tried it out - the voice commands work fine! I don't have iDrive, just premium package and Motorola V710. Now I'm going to see if I can just use spoken names from my phonebook...

LEDZEP, Did you get name dialing working ok. Let me know if not and I can help. I didn't realize at first that you have to record them in to
the radio even if they are already in you phone. It still works great once the names are saved. Hope it's working out well for you. I think the bluetooth / phone is about the coolest feature other than the cars basic performance. |

I want bluetooth/ voice commands...i didn't get the BMW assist because I did not know that voice commands will be there.. Is it too late to get bluetooth after the fact? I know this was discussed somewhere else on this forum...but I dont beleive they reached an answer.
Thanks Skimo |

Guys I had no idea that I would get voice commands without iDrive. They work great on my car although I have not been able to transfer my 250 number phonebook as it seems to take about a couple of hours from my T616 phone.
So far I have only been dialing by saying the number I want to dial but I can't believe how well it works I don't have to talk slow or anything, worked on my first try! I love it.

The voice dialing works great, but I'm having trouble trying to store names/numbers. The manual's instructions are to say "store name" - but the system does not recognize that command. I've also tried "store number" but with the same results. Could it be that the ability to store names and numbers and then dial by name is only available with iDrive? Or am I missing something?
Anyone get this to work? If so, how? |

Yeah, not only the manual is incorrect, but it doesn't list all the commands. You can get some commands by saying "help" to the system (that's how I found out about save instead of store). Does anyone have a list of all commands (I don't have iDrive, only BT and Assist) or know where to get them?
Thanks!

This is all correct. I had the same trouble that LEDZEP had. I kept trying "store name" which got me nowhere. I finally noticed the "help" command in the manual and tried that to find out the typo.
"Save Name" should work fine. The name recognition isn't perfect, it confuses Garen and Nareg as the same name. Oh well.

NO VOICE COMMAND MANUAL!
urgh. my dealer didn't give me a manual for BT/BMW Assist. He just told me two commands, "Dial Number" & "Dial". Is there list of commands online somwhere?
Maybe someone could post a sticky of commands for those of us who are manual-less. and add commands/tips/tricks that aren't published. cheers. |

am in canada and have spoken to my dealer and he insists that there is NO manual for BMW assist / voice commands. getting kinda peeved because the only thing i know is 'dial number' and 'help'. apparently there are commands for everything from using the telephone to the radio to the air conditioning. or do these only apply to cars with idrive?
have already downloaded a couple of the manuals posted here (E60 & X3) but am not having any luck. sorry if this is old had for you guys, but can someone help? thanks in advance. |
