Mixing 5w30 with 5w40?
I have a 2010 E92 335i, I noticed on my way to a car show yesterday that my oil level was at 3/4 (between Min and Max on the oil level scale in the BC menu) and I had checked it again farther along my trip and it read 1/2. At that point I got nervous because it was a 2 hour drive home, but on my way back I checked the level consistently and it has not gone down any more. Drove the car again today, still around the 1/2 mark.
Question: I have some Motul 8100 5w40 laying around but my car is currently running 5w30 Genuine BMW oil. Will adding 1/4-1/2 a quart of the 5w40 hurt anything or should I steer away from mixing oil grades? (I have yet to figure out why I'm leaking or burning oil). |
