LOL...
Is that set to max or 75%. I need this to be really trouble free. I just want about 25% more surge than a stock 335d and hope that it last longer than the 4 seconds say maybe 5 or 6 I know thats asking alot from a car with a 5K redline. Are you enjoying your car with the JBD? With the JBD is it basically stock with just more power? Thx |

Easy city driving sounds nice. The M3 is great but there is not much happy medium when you want to get around others. Its has a lot more drama and you end up doing 70 on the street when 45 - 50 would have been fine. But Im afraid I will miss those explosive upshifts that the DCT gives and the intense carving ability (far and fewer opportunities lately). Any words of wisdom. Hotrod if you are ever down near Long Beach it would be nice to check out your ride....

Hotrod, have you run/timed the jbd yet at 100% on stock tires to see how it compares to the DR time and previous your run on stock tires? I would be curious what 60 and 1/4 mi times you are seeing in this case by comparison.
Now that I have read back through the thread, I was a little surprised that you only picked up 2/10th's in your 60 and 1/4 mile times running DR's and set at 100%, esp since you said your previous times (4.7/13.1) were on stock RFT's with the JBD set only 2 clicks from the middle setting with more to go. I would expect to see better times at 100% w/DR's, unless the higher settings are not actually doing anything. |

I would be interested in seeing you run it at 100% on stock tires/wheels and see how your times compare to the 2 click setting (4.7 to 60/13.1 qtr). |

I had a M3 E90 6MT, then a X5 x35d and was planing to get a second M3 with DCT.
But I couldn't find the right M3 DCT and thought that I should get a powerful car with best possible mileage contra power. The 335d came to my mind at once. Found one, almost fully loaded, bought it over the phone without even having driven it. Got the car, sat in it and started driving, got on the highway and floored it. Damn it was moving! The power was there all the time, no need to rev, just hit it and the car jumped. I was not expecting that! BMW said 0-62 in 6 sec, I say bullshit, this much faster. Now I'm looking to get a new software (aprox 350hp, 700nm) and new wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Can't imagine how fast it will go. If you drive a V8 today and love the torque, get a big diesel and be prepared to get amazed! M3 X5 x35d 335d M Pictures coming Last edited by Auto; 06-26-2011 at 10:40 AM.. |

Yup, I was driving yesterday at 80mph, 6th gear, a little over 2000rpm, and when you give it throttle, the speedo climbs faster than you would expect.
Also, when tooling around town, it has so much torque, and 2nd gear around 20-30mph when accelerating at even moderate throttle, you can feel the rear suspension really jolt over and bumps in the road as the weight transfer and torque is compressing the rear springs. I try to take it easy on uneven surfaces.

The 335d is an awesome car. One of the biggest diesel forums (Diesel Driver) voted the 335d the diesel car of the year. So far: Washington Post, Motor Trend, Diesel Driver, have put this car in the "Best" category. Did a 52 mile trip to LAX the other weekend. Got 47 on the way there, and 45mpg (hit some traffic). on the way back. FYI, the secret to higher MPG is coasting as much as possible. If you go up a hill (using more fuel), you can recoup much of it by coasting down the other side (neutral) as much as possible. I know its not suggested/legal in some cases, but it prevents the engine braking from scrubbing off your speed when your trying to coast. And being a heavier car, this car coasts very well. So far I haven't seen any reliability issues from this.

hotrod, we should meet up sometime. I'd like to do some comparison runs between your car and mine.

Us spec 335d has 20HP less than Euro but runs 0.2 tenths quicker at 1/4mile?!
Maybe the Vbox is slightly optimistic.

Maybe 20hp difference maybe not. What's the torque difference at the wheels between your tune and the JBD? Different tunes, different dynos, different days.conditions, different results. Have you ever had your car independently dyno'd to measure hp at the wheels? He also was running different wheel tire set-up, using drag radials on after market smaller diameter rear wheels, launch technique may also play a role.

Sorry mate I think your confused!!
I'm talking stock vehicles. US spec 265, Euro 286 In stock trim the Euro spec should be quicker. Hotrod, the stock 13.7 was run on stock Tyres?!

Yes I believe his run was on stock tires. Are you comparing his stock time to your stock time or a magazine's or BMW's recorded times? So many variables... Hotrod has shown on more than one occassion that his V-Box is/has reported more conservative times than times reported at the track. He has posted time slips and screen shots of his vbox times and if memory serves me right most of the time the vbox time recorded just a hair slower, but otherwise the traps and times on the vbox have shown to be very accurate. |

Yea comparing to my stock time I did in mine.
What was HR 60' on that run?! Just can't see how it's 2 tenths and half mph quicker with 20HP less

DXB, your runs were at the Santa Pod track, correct? Isn't that a "slow" track, to begin with? That might explain why your times were slower. Of course, there's also the fact that BMW underrates their engines, so you can't take their quoted horsepower figures very seriously. Sure, officially the US spec D is down 20 horsepower, but from what I've seen, dynos of the US spec 335d and Euro spec 335d read pretty much the same. If there is a horsepower difference between them, it is too minor to make a difference in the real world.

I did have the fastest 335d going, standard and modified trim.. Still have in the UK.
0.2 tenths can be attributed (stock car) to the DR's.. but to be 0.5mph quicker, maybe they don't have 20HP more in Europe. Good stuff!!!! Would like to see more at US drag strips though rather than these ''Vbox'' times.

I don't doubt the accuracy.
But I do doubt the roads, the possibility of a decline to enhance results etc. A drag strip is a level playing field, a constant other than weather variables.
