TIAL Q BOV spring
So I have done my research, and have read the spring pressures, which I am not sure if I understand it correctly, based on vacuum correct?
But what I didn't find out is, what comes standard in a TIAL BOV for the 335i? I am amusing its adequate for COBB S1 and S2? I have found nothing definitive during my research. Thanks, Vince

Standard Tial BOV for 335i is 11 PSI spring.
If you just need the BOV you can find it at www.topgearsolutions.com Tial Q |

If the standard spring that comes with the Tial bov is good for 11psi...does that mean those running stage 1 and stage 2 cobb tunes need to buy a new spring since cobb's PSI is generally around 14-18
Also, how do you check your vacuum |

Spring is based upon vacuum PSI only. Not Boost psi. Not sure how to test the vacuum.

no worries, I didn't know either till I was in the market, that's why I started this thread to be sure i got the correct spring. see Jz link, it says springs are vacuum psi not boost.

No one has a boost gauge or datalogs? I just picked up a JB, I have a Tial Q that I was going to use on my other car (before I got my E90) so I'm trying to figure this out too... 11 psi spring if the car pulls at least 20 or more inches 10 psi spring if it pulls between 16 and 19 inches http://www.tialsport.com/documents/BOVspc.png Can anyone w/ boost logs/gauges chime in on what their N54/N55 pulls at idle? Seems like the 10 psi spring would be more appropriate based on that video & the pdf here http://forums.n54tech.com/showthread.php?p=235554 thanks

The 11 PSI spring is what this car needs... case closed.
We sell our Tial Q BOV with the 11 PSI spring when ordered in the BMW E90/E92 section. Last edited by Jeff@TopGearSolutions; 04-03-2013 at 11:09 AM.. |

Hi Mike. did a little searching, If I read above correctly the spring tolerance is based off the the vaccum PSI and NOT the boost PSI. What drives the Vaccum PSI?
Wouldn't higher boost PSI = higher Vaccum PSI? Assuming it is still ok to use the standard spring even if with a tune (procede, JB4, Cobb) that pushes the boost higher (13.5 - 14.5 PSI) even though the standard spring is rates 11 PSI Not trying to prove anyone wrong and i have only recently read about this BOV issue, so just trying to learn a little more so i make a sound choice when i pull the trigger on a BOV or DV. Thanks. |

I beg to differ... I installed mine this past weekend and the valve WOULD NOT OPEN. I couldn't even push it open with my hands. I took it apart to check the internals and spring. Yellow spring as shipped, the piston was lightly sticking so I CLP'd it a little put everything back together and it still wouldn't open by car or hand. I ended up having to cut about 1/4" off the spring to get the piston to function. Any ideas from anyone or vendor as to wtf?? I'll be ordering the 10psi spring today. It almost seemed as if the spring compressed completely was too long to let the piston travel at all... I called tial and they just wanted me to ship everything to them to be inspected... that isn't happening... I kind of need my car to drive. Also I have about 78k miles and haven't done the walnut blasting yet, would that have an effect on the vacuum? Another note, I had to use a reducer from 1/4" to 1/8" right at the manifold to mate up the 1/4" vacuum line.

Holy thread revival batman!
Mine came with the standard spring via TGS and I haven't had any issues. Mind you, mine makes a little bit of a 2 stage vent sound coming off throttle but I think that may be the vacuum hose not being rigid enough, which is a fairly simple fix. It vents fine, just doesn't release ALL at once. To quote Rub Bub with the WOO WOO! whistle tips, It's a lot like PSSSSpshh.
