Got my car robbed, and found it back.

Hello,
Long story, but the police found my car in less than 15 minutes from the time when i got robbed.
They took the car to the Police department to check it, and will be able to pick it up tomorrow.

However, i had a question regarding about the Key.
The key was not found; so im gonna get new key and re-program the thing so that the old key doesn't work anymore.
Is it possible if i can claim the auto insurance for the cost of new key and programing?

I haven't check if there were any damages to the car yet, i was just panniced the whole time til i got home.

I'm so thankful that i didn't get hurt though..

Be safe everyone.

I would fork out the cost of a new key and programming then to have the title a theft recovery and a claim. Might hurt you in the long run.

On top of what Loo316 said, isn't a new fob around $500 ?

Which is in line with the average deductible, on claims against your own insurance policy.

How did the thief get the key? Were you hijacked or left it running? House keys on ring?Spare set in car?
Most likely something with your address was in car, if other keys were also better think about changing every lock you left a key for.

A spare key fob and programmed is about $400. If they will even do it, it will be more to have the car reprogrammed for a different key. I had the comfort access go out on mine under CPO and that had to be programmed in Germany specifically for my car.

Thank you.
Short story; gun was pointed at me, threat me, suspect left, called the police and they came in less than 3 minutes, found the car within first 15 minute.

That is true. If the car doesn't have any other damages, i might just cancel the claim that i have first filed with the insurance.
If i don't put a claim, i wouldn't get the theft recovery on my title?

I lost spare key.
It was NOT stolen, it was robbed. Pointed gun at me, robbed my car, and police found the car but my keys were not found anywhere; which means the suspect might still have it. Also, the car i drive is very easy to recognize in this town, with few mods on it. That's why i am trying to get re-programmed so that the previous keys would not work with it.

Clearly the car needs new reprogrammed keys, but just concerned thief may have gotten away with additional keys and residence info, if not disregard comment

Hey, the detective is guessing that the thief just needed car from A point to B point, because he didn't took anything from the car, even i had few hundred dollar bills on glove box, didn't even touch it.
The papers even the registration has my old address, cause i recently moved to new place, so i should be good.
Just dropped the car at the dealership, now they will deal with the insurance company. It really sucked.
