335d - Carbon Build-up
I posted this question under the technical section, but figured it would get more exposure here.
We've only had the d here state-side since 2009, so most 335d's have not been on the road that long. However, that does not mean we have not seen our share of problems with these cars. I am aware of at least 2 335d owners (MY 2009) who have reported needing to take their car to the dealer because of hesistation, rough ideling etc. The problem was diagnosed by the dealer(s) to be excessive carbon build-up and the fix was to replace the head, all under warranty of course. The dealer(s) also replaced the EGR and did a software update. The kicker is these cars only had 20k+ miles on them. I thought it unusual for the cars to have that kind of build-up with such low mileage to the extent it would require head replacement - makes me wonder why the dealer didn't just clean it with a walnut blaster. In any event, since you guys have been driving BMW diesels for far longer I am curious if any of you experienced this issue and if so, how did the dealer resolve. I am trying to better guage if these occurances were more of an isolated incident to earlier MY diesels or something that is going to prove to be a problem over the long haul. |
