Evolve Tune, Eco improvement?
Hi guys,
2009 335d, running a JBD for now. Looking at Evole's tune - they're saying that there will be an improvement in cruising economy with their product. Does anyone have any concrete evidence of this claim? I don't care for more power - no space to use it around here - the increased economy is very interesting to me.... Thanks |

I will eventually contact them, but I'm not interested in them trying to sell me their product - was hoping for someone who's actually been putting miles on a 335d with that tune.
If it's not as advertised, i'd rather find out prior to spending the $500 - this is where having a diesel sub-fourm will help |

Evolve was very professional and I had a great experience with them and was happy with their product. They just were not willing to go where I wanted to go... |

Mark M I can attest what TDi states. I have RENNtech flash, my cars overall mpg has improved specially HWY miles I can at 70 mph and A/C on get around 40-42 mpg's but its hard here on the island to keep that since so many cars around. Plus i have a LEAD foot. either you get JB, Ecotune, Evolve or Renntech or whomever car will perform better

1. It can be set (by them if I recall) for either performance or economy. 2. Supposedly you don't get limp modes with their module. I think their device is still on their website store under something like "diesel module"

The main reason the Ecotune is measuring better than Evolve is no regens are occurring which drags overall fuel economy down ~1-2 mpgs on average from what I've observed (for example, long road trip where the mpg's are creeping up and up and then ... regen for ~10-11 mins of <30 mpg's drags the avg down from, say 41 to 38, and then the mpg's start trying to go back up after the regen finishes ...). |

Buying either tune to save money on fuel is a poor argument.
Check out Carmax's savings calculator. Let's say you get 5mpg improvement, which is quite generous, which bumps you up from say 32mpg to 37mpg, over 15k miles a year, that's only saving about $250 a year, BEST case scenario. http://www.carmax.com/enus/mpg-savin...r/default.html People get these tunes for the added power, not fuel economy. Power comes at a price, fuel. |

VS motorsports is out of business as of early 2013. I wanted to get an Evolve tune from them last summer, but wound up with a JBD after finding out they were gone.
