Car's registration overdue..

I just realized my car's registration is overdue for a few months, didn't even notice it and didn't get anything in the mail (I think it got mailed to my old address probably)

I hear that you can go to a AAA office to get it renewed, does anyone if this is true? I don't have AAA so do I need to have AAA to use this service? The closest appointment is over 2 weeks away and now I'm scared to drive my car around and get pulled over

You need to have a AAA membership to go through them. Also you can't be past due to go through them i believe. I tried before when i let one go past due. Just make an appt at the DMV and if the cop stops you for it show him a print out with the appt time and he should just give you a warning unless you already got a warning.

... and this is exactly why AAA membership is worth every penny.

I have 3 cars, plus my gf's... between registration, buying/selling, and the tows (with old bmw's, you know you'll need em) my AAA has paid for itself a million times over

If I had more than one car I would seriously consider it lol. How much do you pay per year?

Around $100 for the girlfriend and myself, that includes 4 tows at up to 100 miles (perfect for getting a broken car back from Buttonwillow or Willow Springs! ). No charge for gas if you run dry, up to $100 for a vehicle locksmith, etc.

Not to mention her grandparent's undying love and trust for keeping their little girl safe

I appealed the late charges with some form the DMV provided and got my late charges removed. I was about 4 months late at that point and my registration was over double in late fees. Try it out if you haven't already

Even if you are late, you can still do the online registration. As soon as you pay and get the printout, you are legal to drive. I had to fight a ticket once that my tags were expired. Sent them a copy showing the payment was made before the ticket was written and it was dismissed.

I like going late, they actually hurry up at the end of the day cause they want to go home

The only time this backfired was when I went in for my license renewal. Went in at 5:20 (they close at 6) and was at the window in 20 minutes. Got all my forms filled out with the quickness, blew thru my eye exam, then the woman goes "you'll still need to take the written test, but we close that at 5:30 so you'll have to come back another time. We can take your picture today tho."

needless to say, my license looks like a mugshot this time around. not happy.

lol damn that sucks, I was there till around 4:30 yesterday and the line still looked insane, but I also overheard some people saying that the other dmv in the area was temporarily closed so I'm sure that played a huge factor in the long wait -_-

I always have good luck with the DMV of Westminster, personally. I go right before the reopen after lunch and get in and out within an hour.

Mine is due 07/18 and is due for smog too. I have the form and will pay online like I always do. Smog, I guess I have to do it this weekend. My thermostat turned on the CEL light few years ago and I turned off. Hopefully this does not make any difference when smog test.

you couldn't do it online? maybe cause it's past due? I have AAA, but don't even want to wait in line there either. Online has been flawless for me.
