Oil Filter Removal Tool

Hi chaps. Wanting to buy an oil filter removal tool like this:

I bought one online (16 flats 86mm wide) which appeared from my research to be the correct size for my engine (N53 6-cylinder). However when it arrived, it was just too small to fit over the filter housing cap.

I now find there are tools on the web of 86mm, 87mm and 88mm and I don't know which I need. Based on measurement of the distance between flats, 86mm should be right...but it clearly isn't.

So do any of you have one of these wrenches already? If so, could you tell me the width between flats pls?

Cheers.

Doesn't the filter cap have a 32mm hex-head on it?

Same size as for n54? Can't find my bloody tape measure I think it's around 88mm. I purchased the proper bmw tool for it less than 10 quid and worth having the 100% correct size. It has 16 flats but until I can find a measure sorry that's all I can tell u.
Bmw part no 83 30 0 493 936 if it helps you find out more info

Yep bmw Cooper can't recall if they had to order it or not and yes surprised me how cheap it was.

Edit I can now remember it wasn't in stock but only took a day to get. the sales guy also stated at the time they use swan necks rather than the proper tool as the torque specs are so low on them.

Thanks. No it wasn't out of shape and the only marking on the inside was '16', which I took to be 16 flats. Maybe it's poor quality control and not made to spec...
