Mixing Runflats and Non Runflats
Hi All,
Looks like my rear tyres have about 1000-2000 miles left in them so I will soon be in the market for some new ones, my question is has anyone mixed non runflats with runflats as I would like to get two new non runflats at the back while keeping my runflats at the front as there is loads left of them. Just before anyone suggests replacing all 4 for non runflats at the same time this would not be an option as I am replacing with non runflats due to the cost of them. Cheers, Chris. |

I would not operate run-flats and non-run flats together. They have very different characteristics and I think they would upset the balance of the car. Buy non run-flats all round and sell the runflats on eBay.

Your car will be a horrible understeering mess with that configuration as there'll be so much more grip and rubber at the back than the front.
Just store your RFTs for if/when you sell the car (or ebay them now) and replace the whole set mate..

I'm running Continental DWS in the front and OEM RFT's in the back. Car behaves just fine.
Now I don't track the car and just drive normally every day so I don't know about understeering or whatnot |

i would say it would be "ok" wouldnt go and do a track day like it, but as long as you keep same tyre on each axle, i would say its cool.
I am no tyre expert, if you understeer into a tree and your car explodes, i accept no liability for my above statement. ;-)

Cheers for the replies so far, I wouldn't be near a track so normal road driving only. I will speak to BMW before I make the change for their advice, on doubt they will give numerous reasons not to do it.
If I can get a gound enough deal on two runflats or four non runflats it may sort the problem for me, but so far quotes on runflats are serious money. |

As previously mentioned on this site, have a look at www.camskill.co.uk and look for the Falcon 452's. I have priced these up for my 330i in preparation and I think that 4 of those bad boys may be cheaper than you think.
...I may be wrong of course but ya never know! |

I ran RFT's on the front of the M3 for a very short time (while I was waiting for a complete set of tyres). It was ok, but I was driving carefully because of the mix.
I personally wouldn't do it full time and most seem to think it's not a good idea (and I completely understand why), but that's not to say it'll be unsafe or compromise normal driving. If, god forbid, you had an accident, it would the sort of thing an insurance company would use to wriggle out of a claim. Fuckers.
