Feeling the pain....

Well, I cant see any way around this one. Up until now my military status has provided me protection against Colorado DMV taxes; not any more. The regulations have changed as of last year and I am nolonger exempt. The DMV wants 1100$ to register my M3 for 1 year! This is bull shit!! Why should an expensive car be required to pay more than others to drive on the same streets? Its not like the nicer your car is the more it damages the streets. If that was the logic then we should be charged by the weight of our cars, not the price. This is just really pissing my off. Not to mention I now have to also pay a couple hundred to register the Harley. I am sooo mad!

Just thought I would vent a little bit...

Yup, pretty much sucks. I still paid $300 last year even though my 3-series is 5 years old now....and my 5-series (18 year old) is over $100. All these fees they have added lately are pretty ridiculous.

I can see why the people at DMV need a bullet proof piece of glass in front of them.

I personally think it should be mileage based - the more you drive, the more you pay.

Along those same lines, I'd gladly pay extra for a "high-speed" lane where you have to have a special permit, car and/or license, but basically you are free to drive as fast as you want in it.

Agreed here too. It's unfair greed by municipalities. You already paid your fair taxes when you ~bought~ the car. So it's taxation without representation to me. Some states went a way from that crap - one registration price regardless of the cost of the car. The state of Washington is one. It was brought to vote when I lived there, and I remember all the boatloads of bullshit the beaurocrats brought up to fight the referendum. I hope we get that here soon.

100% agreed. At least mine was under $300 this year I think. The taxes arent quite as bad up here, but still, its pretty stupid that I pay what someone in a 85 crappy ass pinto does. Vehicle registration is a joke.

I bought my US spec 335i in England in October 2008 and DMV wanted to charge me $3200 sales tax when I registered it here in May 2010 even though the C.R.S. stated that I was exempt.

We're actually pretty lucky over here when it comes to cars and taxes. Just like gas is so much cheaper here.

I used to work at LEGO with guys from Denmark. I went over there and even their VPs drove tiny cars. When they moved over here for 3 years, they all bought massive high HP, high displacement cars and trucks. I wondered why they switched, because I thought they were all just green and eco-conscious over there. Turns out they are taxed on cars based on the displacement of the engine. An M3 over there would cost almost as much in tax as the sticker price. Thus they all buy these little cars with 1.5-2L engines. Not to mention that gas is over twice as expensive over there.

Talk about suck.

Yup, cost me about $1000 to register the 3er back in 2007. Can't wait to see how much they "ask" for this year. Mine's coming up in a few months.

Btw, how are you fellas doing? Been a while.

$735 for the second year of my S4.. It's pretty easy to determine yoru tax based upon the taxable value originally set. They have a decreasing % over the first 5 years. Go check your county DMV website and you can estimate your payment.

It does go down year by year but just too damned slowly.
