Adam,

Could this explain the whiff of smoke I am seeing on cold start up in the morning ? ( doesnt happen when the engine is started hot )

My car has done 8000 miles now from new so the pipework could be quite oily inside by now ?

Regards

Yves

Whiff of smoke? Is this coming from the engine bay? Please provide more details so we can figure this out.

No,

You'll be fine with just draining the canister every oil change.

Hi there,

The smoke comes from the exhaust tip when first started, just a puff, nothing more and only ever when its been standing for a long time and is cold.

Spoke to my dealer about it yesterday and they didnt think it was a problem and just asked me to monitor it.

What do you think ?

Coming from the Mazda community (2.3L turbocharged direct injection 4cyl) I wholeheartedly endorse installation of a catch can. I had a saikou michi can on my car. I'm not sure if this was mentioned but it should be pointed out that b/c our injectors are located in the cylinder head, there is nothing in the intake manifold, i.e. fuel, to clean the oil gook that can collect there. Ultimately this will just continue to build up. Things like oil knock can result from blowing this crap into the cylinder while boosting. CCs are a must for longevity.
