HID Angel Eyes for $40 - completely PnP (HID vendors will hate me!)
I'm going to show you guys how you can install HID angel eyes without cutting or splicing any wires! And if that wasn't good enough, everything is self contained and will fit INSIDE the head light housing. All for a total of $40 + shipping.
Step one: Buy HID kit from DDM tuning and wait ONE MONTH (it sucks).. I went with 5k color temp http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DD...ast-35W-or-55W Step two: Mock up the hid kit over the head light housing. Step three: Connect the power wires from the hid kit to the connector that the angel eye H8 bulb used. Step four: tuck everything into the head light housing. Step five: put cover back on and test Once you completed these steps you'll notice that your HIDs don't work! Thats because we have to do a little magic with coding. Step six: disable soft illumination NFRM module - change WL_SL_1 to hart_einschalten (this removes the on/off fading for the angel eyes) Step seven: disable angel eye bulb check NFRM module - change CC_MELD_RL_BL_1_ALS_TFL to nicht_aktiv Step eight: disable angel eye dimming NFRM module - PWM_RL_BL_1_FKT_SL change value to wert_01 Step nine: disable angel eye PWM Read the NFRM module. Then take the NETTODAT file and make a copy to compare from. Now change PWM_RL_BL_1_FKT_SL wert_01 to wert_06 and recode the car. Now read the module again and compare this NETTODAT file to the last. You'll find 2 bytes (values) that changed. Then you change them: [ 38 0E ] Save this NETTODAT and recode using the NETTODAT instead of the normal MAN file. Step ten: Enjoy, you're done!

Wow bro. Can't believe you can install only the hid kit and code some items. That's awesome. I got my hid angels from alpine with all the wiring and resistors.

Once I learned how small the ddm slim kits are, I ordered a set and just gave it a shot. After a few hours of finding what to code, everything worked great. I could install them again in 20 minutes now that I documented what needs to be coded.

Looks great I bet! I want 5000k HIDs....
too bad even for 2012 e92 335xi they don't have great shrouds, bulbs, projectors, or even hue.

I got a few pms asking these questions so I'll post the answer up here too.
-I got the 35 watt kit, the 55 watt would be way too bright. -There is no need to get any error cancelers because you be remove the bulb check. (Step Seven) -A HID harness is NOT needed for this.

hmm, I might switch out my lux v2 for these, but it would cost me more than $40 since I don't have the cable to code. Not much of a downer since I could probably use the cable to code other things on my car and getting these are a whole lot cheaper than getting OSS. I know these are bright, but how bright are these at night? I don't want to blind people and piss them off.

do you prefer this HID set up or do you prefer running halogen H8 bulbs and upping the voltage and cancelling the dimming via coding?
also is there some way, either through coding or physical means to dim the HID angels when the headlights turn on? because at night its just too bright and i do not want people flashing me all the time...

And you can't dim the HID kit, it's either on or off. ********* developed a brilliant system (with full LED rings mind you) that uses a photocell (light sensor) to adjust the brightness of the rings--so max brightness during the day, but dims them slightly at night so they're not blinding. |

Don't the ballast get hot though? I would watch out for heat issues.
They look awesome! |

Thanks for making the DIY, there is never any point to spending loads of money on 'special' HID kits when all errors can be coded out.
I had this type of set-up on my 550i and people flashed me constantly at night. Went happily back to stock. |

Yes they do, they just don't fade on or off. It's impossible to make HID fade.

Of course you can code a generic hid kit but if you dont know how to code how much do you have to pay? And if you do know how to code how much did that fancy cable cost and hours spent learning how to code? Besides all that the ddm tuning kit is notorious for its high failure rate. They also use cheap bubls which dont protect against uv, that cause yellow of angel eye housing and discoloration of the housing over time. For the record i dont sell any hid so im not "mad" im just throwing out some facts. My buddy just picked up 2 ddm tuning kits recently 1 works and the other failed in 2 weeks. Those kits cost ddm about 6-10 wholsale. Our friends at hpb spend ove 5x that for the high quality stuff.

No, not really. Here is a temp reading I took of the ballast after 15 minutes. (it looks like I'm pointing it at the igniter, but I'm not.)

cool, don't use ddm then.
lots of people on this forum offer free coding (including me at one time, but I no longer have time) both problems solved. even if you bought the coding cable ($90) and the hid kit ($40), it's still cheaper and BETTER than using one of the non-PnP hack job kits vendors sell on this forum. Quote:
