If you financing a car for say 20-24k get a good downpayment of like 5k and save another 5k for insurance and incase (god forbid) you lose your job or hit a bump in the road you can still make payments until you find another job. I hope you don't have to deal with an asshole salesman because it can make you not want to buy a car ever again, even thought the first salesman was an asshole to me twice I dont hold grudges I just dont give him the time of day, but I still give him and everyone respect no matter what.
I'm currently saving for the down payment. Have about 6k right now. Trying to get the loan down to a low amount so I can also have an apartment and not just a car.

22 years in the military afforded me the opportunity to learn the craft and skillset I now use to work 9-5 five days a week. Of course, shrewd money management skills over the years (everyone knows military pay isn't the best) allowed me to afford my BMW without sacrificing the rest of my family's lifestyle.

If right now you live free (with family) I suggest you stay there as long as you can, REALLY! When you get out on your own you will see how much more money you could have saved if you lived with your family. I would also try to buy a condo instead of lease an apartment, now a days for the price your paying for rent you might as well pay 100 bucks more on a condo or house. At least at the end of everything you'll have something. Also don't just save for the down payment. Save for the down payment and taxes, insurance, and 6 months worth of payments. I wish you the best in all your goals young man/lady, in sure you'll have a 335i in no time. What is your price range. I'm putting my 11' up for sale pretty soon.

I honestly attribute a lot of it to luck. School might have been partly my doing (getting out earlier than most), but moving up in the banking industry definitely was a mix of ambition and luck. Mostly luck, lol.

I went from Personal Banker, to Assistant Branch Manager/Senior Banker, to Branch Manager, to AVP of District Operations in two years, and recently took my VP position, and while banking is my forte... I know I'm not good enough to move that quickly without a lot of luck on my side.

So yeah, that's my story so far. I love my job, and thank everyday that I was able to excel in doing what I love. Personally, to me, it was a humbling experience.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling...
You're incredibly successful for your age... and humble. Good for you.

My story:

Grew up poor ---> didn't like being poor.

Studied hard to get out (became a doctor) ---> work hard and saved.

Driver's cars are a bit of a weakness of mine. ---> No brainer, BMW.

I financed mine at 15% APR for 25 years. It's the only way I can afford it, but it looks good parked outside my mobile home.

Direct result of a college education. Specifically, I decided to treat myself after earning a doctoral degree from USC in 2004. The huge bump in pay made such a purchase very affordable

Work, work, and more work. Decided to keep my other toy and my 03 Maxima. Car being financed for 5 years (already have almost half a year, time flew!). Just making bigger payments monthly.

I went to this big place where a bunch of BMWs were just parked there for some reason. I was looking around and just randomly chose one, got in, and drove off. Some people were running behind the car and screaming...they must have been really excited for me or something.

A bit later this weird car came up behind me and turned on these ridiculous ricer-like flashing neons and lights, it was sooo annoying. After some spirited driving they couldn't keep up and I eventually made it home.

So yeah, I kinda just found mine, no expenses incurred.

I am looking for a '07-'09. I like the look better. That and they are more my current price range.

I should edit my statement and say that I am saving for down payment, taxes, insurance, mods, etc and not just the down payment.

//off topic

I am also looking into a condo or townhome, but the problem with that is that I am moving in with my girlfriend and we want to make sure that we can live together before we take a mortgage out. I want equity in something and I think we can live together, but I guess it's better to try it out first.

//on topic

Anyway, that was off topic, but the point is that I am trying to save as many pennies as possible workin' 9-5 to buy an e92. I appreciate the thought, I just am looking for an older one, like I said, between '07-'09.

The anticipation is just killing me! And finding the right one is impossible.

Thanks for the thought, though.

I haven't even started to look into loans yet, that way I can't preemptively buy a car if I can't afford it.

That a smart move you and your girl are doing (sounds like it's going the direction of marriage). But the right 335i will come along, and it will come right when youve saved for everything. Good luck.

I have been working full time since the age of 20. I saved enough to buy my car after I paid off student loans and my apartment, at 31.
